Questions about BEAM

I have some questions regarding BEAM. I live in D.D. Colony

You'll get it only if there are active connections in your neighborhood.

1) Do I need to buy a modem from them? If so, what is the cost?

No need for router if its just one single computer, if its for more than one then get their router which I think sells for Rs.1200. Protip: Create a strong password for both your wifi and BEAM login page, passwords with alphabets and numbers is a good combination and try to change the passwords every now and then.

2) Will power cuts in other areas disrupt my connection?

The 'junction box' they install in your area comes with a 2 hr backup battery, so if there is a power failure, your connection will still be working.

3) Any installation charges?

It depends on the plan, there are no installation charges for annual and biannual packages. If you are going to pay monthly then I think they charge around Rs.500 for installation.

4) Do I need to log in every time I use the net? Or at a certain time every 24h like Reliance?
My router usually stays on for days and there is no need for a login but when I turn off for more than 5-6 hrs then the first page that greets me after starting the router is the login page.

5) Are there frequent disconnections? If so can I auto login in case I am away?
It depends, it has been a case of hit n miss for a few people. As you can see, some people in this thread are having problems with the connection but some others including me are sailing the smoother seas.

Can someone post the FUP limits for each plan and the post FUP speeds for each plan? I tried the links at beamtele.com and couldn't find any.

I am thinking about trying the 610Rs plan.Any advice?
Get whatever suits your pocket and your needs.

Thank you for replying, but your table seems to be outdated. There was a small price increase a few months back.

If they charge 50 more also there is no problem.Just to update you Guys, the Speed upgrade is possible this year in Oct month or in Early January 2013 as per Source and Some Officials told me they are going to remove these 400,600 plans. I hope they don't do it Some told the Maximum plan can be up to 40mbit/s and 20mbit/s would be on 1020 plan with FUP.Please Introduce Pay per GB model with No Restrictions on Speed Mr. Chandwani :)Fingers Crossed. :|

It is inevitable for BEAM to increase their speeds by keeping the prices intact, like someone already pointed out in this forum, increasing speeds doesn't cost them much but its the data usage that matters. Given the entry of new competitors (eg; YOU Broadband) into market who are offering the same stuff like BEAM, they must improve themselves if they want to survive. It has happened with my ISPs before, my speeds went from 512 to 1mb with one and 1mb to 2mb with another free of cost. Personally I'm happy with 10 mbps, I just need my FUP increased.

Same here. If only they could increase to ~60GB. But I guess theres no limit to this. Once they increase it to 60GB, few months later i'd again start feeling if only they could increase it even further.

I doubt a heavy speed upgrade. These guys are supposed to use the duct from now. the tentative price is 1lakh per kilometre. Which is quite less.I guess they can reckon with this price. If their investors are ready to owe them 3-5 crores initially then can easily do laying of 300-400kms of underground Fiber.

Moar speed while all other ISPs are sleeping. :Storyteller:

Hey guys, I was just having a couple of questions regarding beam, so here it is. I have a Netgear WiFi router that I intend to use with Beam. Is it possible? I'm hearing that there's a login page which pops up every time. I plan on using Beam via WiFi on my iPhone, does this mean I have to login every time? Do I have to login often when it gets disconnected?

Ofcourse it is posssible. No login page will pop up all the time, you'll have to enter the wifi password just once and your phone and pc will save it for future use. The only times you'll come across login (BEAM) is only if you switch off your router for long durations, lets say full night. I'm using it, no probs whatsoever.
