Hi,My New iMac will be shipped in a day or two. However, I'm not quite satisfied with the built-in 1GB RAM, and I don't want to buy from the Apple resellers as well (Rs.10,000!!).Is Mac RAM proprietary? Don't other brands offer Mac RAM (for cheaper)? Where do I buy in Mumbai?I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

You can install DDR2 ram in your imac which should satisfy the following unbufferednonparity200-pinPC2-5300you can get 1 GB RAM from Transcend for Rs.900 , in mumbai it will be available at all computer stores

900! Really? wow! How could they charge 10,000 then? :-|Also, would it be okay if I add a 2gb block making it a total of 3GB or should it be equal (1+1 and 2+2)?ThanksOh btw, if you've bought it, do you have the details of the shop? (Lamington is nearest to me.)

I live in Delhi , but from what i have read all over , lamington road is the best place to buy it in mumbai , you can add a 2Gb block too , it wont do any harm . 3 Gb is the max the mac os can see

Are you sure? I've heard that using similar size RAM blocks helps increase speed, so I'm wondering if I should use 3 or 4 GB. btw, 4GB is max, as I see in the product brochure. Also, I inquired and yes, RAM is available at Lamington. 1GB-950; 2GB-1775 :-)

See if it supports dual channel , if it does then go for a 1GB and use it in dual channel mode else use the 2Gbthe mac supports 4gb but from what i have read the Operating System shows it as 3 gb only (probably because it is 32bit)
