this is insane! this is stupidity! :madness: :wall:

This is Orwell's 1984 in action. Unfortunately, India is not the only country planning and executing such things. US, UK, France - everybody is involved. China, Iran etc. are way ahead. Control the internet - control freedom.

this move is to eliminate low level ISPs. they are not going to catch ratan tata for some1 misusing tataBB. but they wud promptly be able to catch mini-ISPs.

outcome? mini-ISPs will sell their network to big ISPs. big ISPs will then have monopoly and do whatever they want to do with charges.

Interesting angle, the market here is ripe for massive consolidation. This way there is no middle man to support and they can make more profit themselves.

Prices to us lowly consumers will remain the same since we have already proven we are ready to pay as much for as low.

No IT company would comply to such a law considering IT is a huge sector and contributor to India's economy.

If such a law were to be passed in the US, two major lobbies could immediately be identified - RIAA/ MPAA etc and national security nuts. In India, the first lobby does not exist other than in TN (to some extent - Goonda Act applied to pirates). The second one has lots of members. I feel they are responsible for the suggestion. Implementing the same will mean that every ISP will have to setup filtering equipment in place. They might even be forced to link up ips with websites visited. That would really be something.People should start getting ready to use Tor more often. I am surprised they have not declared use of cryptography to be illegal for general use. Maybe they don't know what it is.

unfortunately the original tor server's admin was arrested and threatened. He and his family was so frightened that he completely stopped his tor server operations :( atleast he said that he will continue his work just on the tor framework and will not host any public tor server...

exactly thats what i mean small ISP (individual) wud easily get scared. one ISP is arrested and other ISPs wud then be alerted and majority wud sell their business.@gregeven with so much restriction, China is going way ahead and super pace. anyway thats different issue.

even with so much restriction, China is going way ahead and super pace. anyway thats different issue.

Thats the image other countries are getting. No one knows exact happenings there coz internet content available there are controlled by the govt and all blogs are constantly monitored. If you start a Chinese version of broadbandforum, Sushubh, definitely you will be behind bars or worst will disappear for ever :yahoo::thumbsup:
Same is the case in Myanmar where China decides on what should happen.
