i wonder if subreddit admins can hide their communities from google search results. that alone would probably hit reddit more than going private for short period of time. there was a post on reddit earlier today showcasing the number of users of the different mobile apps. third party apps didn't even have 10% of the userbase of the official reddit app iirc.
checked and they do not seem to offer search engine exclusion as part of subreddit administration. understandable i suppose.
