Hey Guys,
My family has been using the reliance thunder plan 1099 (4 mbps) for over 2 years, the internet download speed fell considerably over the past few months. Presently as you can see (attached speed test) i'am receiving 0.9 mbps DL!... this is less that 1/4 of what was promised. I don't like making a fuss but isn't this an absolute rip off? ( i have checked the speed at midnight, early morning, mid afternoon and Late evening> all bearing a consistent average of 0.7- 09 mbps speeds.
My Location:-
-Approx 3 other apartments in my building have a reliance broadband network with possibly a thunder plans.(Neighbors are not friendly/Fanatical so asking for their download speed might not be easy, but from the likes of it they all seem quite dandy about their quality of internet)
- I Know the local technician, and can call him if the need be.
-No serious network outage or other service problems in the area
Hardware:-
-I have a ADSL line Binatone-815 modem with a 20-Mbps capacity.
-Laptop/PC both are windows 7
-I link directly without a WiFi router.
Some Questions?
1) Is my claim justified?
2) Are the service guys somehow manipulating the bandwidth to distribute evenly among the apartments(Service subscribed) and charging each for full bandwidth(noob question)?
3) What is the impact of "Line" and its impact due to distance of modem from Reliance hardware?
4) ADSL (Tele-vintage stuff) vs RJ-45 wiring?
5) Can i serve my local technician "tea" to help improve this network bandwidth or "line" bandwidth limit?
6) Will a better modem help improve the speed dramatically?
7) Are they any tricks or tips that i as non technical person might just be overlooking?
Please do reply to any or all questions if you have answers as i'am finding my network speed quite less to the minimum 2 Mbps speeds i'am seeing for other Reliance thunder plan users on the forum! And i'am in a desperate need of better speeds as i'am exuberantly using file sharing app-soft with my peers from work presently.
