main balance in jio is not technically a talk time, so it cannot be used yet for sms or calls

It is a type of talktime as per jio. Except they allow you to use it only for ISD calls. The other operators adopted a similar strategy to copy Jio. Now with this basic plan, I think the others will quickly fall in line.

i did 12 recharge in 12 rs
now sim will be alive for 1 year

I don't think it will work like that. it's not an active plan. it is data only plan which means you will get only data and not validity extension. means by recharging for rupees 12 you got 1.2 GB data only like previously you used to get 1GB data for 11 rs ( and currently it's 15rs) it's the same thing just in different way lol. but again I'm not sure because by recharging for rupees 1 the internet is working even there is no current active plan which didn't use to before

Trai clause says any chargeable activity in 90 days means the number cannot be disconnected. So yes, this plan is Jio‘s sneaky way to prevent any more loss of numbers. For them, image matters. Their investors cannot be told that 19+ million subscribers didn’t recharge and so their numbers were disconnected. It happened once this year. They don’t want to repeat it again. So technically this is cheaper than the TRAI mandated ₹20/month retention charge. Customers can line up as many recharges as they want, the SIM remains active. The 100MB is just to save face and put up a facade that this is completely legal (which technically it is). Also earlier you just could recharge with Prime for a year and get access to their music and movies. Remains to be seen if Prime is a concept they’ll continue from next year.

It is a validity recharge not simply data only.
I recharged a spare number of Jio which was lying dormant with no incoming and now it has incoming facility activated. I have qued 12 recharges. So basically 12 months worth of incoming for Rs 12.
