Today's TOI Mumbai claims that Reliance has rolled out Wi-max in Pune for Business use (can't find the online article). Anyone from Pune who has heard about this/experienced at office do let us know! WiMax is my last hope to reduce the huge 'last mile' connectivity cost. Let's hope it takes off in a big way and ultimately home users also get to benefit from lower rates! For home users - my dad has received a Reliance mailer claiming to provide last mile fibre optic connectivity. Will they actually do this???

WiMAX is my last hope too, but I believe (as I've posted before) that the Telcos will position the wireless services at the premium, luxury or corporate level, read: exorbitant prices :)

Calm down. Why so desperate for connectivity? i'm not sure if you're 35. Are you married? I know its kinda personal but i'm just asking? :P

umm mtnl bsnl and airtel has last mile connectivity. has they reduced the net prices for us customers?

Yes but their last mile connectivity is at a cost. Of actually physically laying the cable. WiMax will bypass that cost (Wired magazine estimates it as one of the biggest costs of a provider) and hopefully make it cheaper for us.As for MTNL/ BSNL - yes, they are the only ones who already had the cable laid. - so they incur marginal extra cost to provide a connection. But I don't think they see BB as a seperate business let alone a core business. Till they have a real business plan to expand BB in the country, I would not pin my faith on them!

meaculpa, u didnt answer my question! :(

2 mbps would have been a dream if not for BSNL/MTNL... or ANY kind of 256 kbps connection in 500 Rs range would have been unthinkable.

OTOH... GOOD NEWS

Reliance WiMax IS available for consumers.

Came to Pune, was talking to local IT Infra guys. One of them got it installed yesterday [still waiting for activation]. He lives in Pashan area.

They installed a small dish and signals are ok. Packages is 2 mbps with 4 GB limit, costs 850 (that includes taxes etc).

I have taken Reliance Wi-MAX connection.

I am facing the issue of connecting to the internet.

The reliance engineer who came and installed the net may have not properly configured my laptop. The connection status always shows as "Limited connectivity". I have to disconnect/disable the LAN many times to get it work.

Can anyone tell me LAN connection settings ? Is the IP is dyanamic ??

They didnt input any settings in TCP/IP section and using "Obtain IP address automatically"

Tell me the exact procedure of configuration and settings for Pune region.
