Its not too tough. Firstly, you need to root your phone, read up on the sticky threads on xda i9000 section to learn the basics.

After the DDLA5 update my phones battery is draining very fast

So dont u have ICS ROMs for Note yet? If u have, then install it! The battery management is really improved - atleast thats what i have observed over the past 1 week. My usage hasnt reduced, but the draining of battery has slowed down for sure.
