Hi Guys,
I am new to this forum. Need a little 'Honest' advice. Sun Direct has really pissed me off with their HD content, customer care and everything else...

So I am planning to Move to Dish TruHD.. Specifically as they are offering the maximum number of HD channels (30 is very far away from its nearest competitor Sun with 6 regular HD channels). So have few question to help me decide...

1) Does dish have a HD-DVR or it is a plain old HD-receiver with no recording?
2) Does any one actually get all the 30 channels, I was little suspicious that these could be up-scaled broadcasts. Can someone do me a favor by posting pictures if possible of these channels.
3) How is the customer care @ Dish? I know of the CC services in India suck, but can they be tolerated and are they educated enough to speak to customer ? ( I had this experience with Sun where even after calling for 20th time for one issue they would start with the first step... "Please switch off your STB and check the connections..."... Dont they read the previous call log which they DO HAVE??? )
4) How do the regular channels fare? I am asking becos the quality of regular channels on Sun HD is worse than the analog Hathyway Cable connection I have.

All Advices are appreciated...........
Thanks in Advance...

Cheers,
IndyMav :)

1.) AFAIK no DVR2.) Not yet, but they are on the way. There was some rumors that it could be upscaled, so unsure. I have the HD STB btw.3.) CC sucks at times needing multiple calls sometimes and some yelling and abusing, but the job gets done. I just screamed at them for delaying me getting the Mono LnB and got it in a day after that.4.) Clarity is good on DishTV HD or non-HD, I have 3 at home. And am satisfied.

I bought Dish Tru HD before 2 days with new pack (30 HD channels)... Only True HD channels are Movies Now HD, Discovery HD, NatGeo HD, Star Cricket HD and ESPN HD...That 30 New HD channels looks same as its normal NON-HD channels...Hope they will replace real HD channels like HBO HD, AXN HD for their Duplicate ones soon...

D2h has 6 Tru HD channels - Nat Geo, Discovery, Movies Now, Travel XP (Its a really good 1), D2h Movies (Free movies channel), D2h Music videos.....Apart from this, theres Zee HD - its being tested, but its just upscaled. And another test feed, which is not currently visible on TV.And they have a DVR as well.My advice - Tata or d2h.......may be unbiasedly speaking, Tata is way ahead in terms of low cost of HD DVR, as compared to d2h.

Thanks guys for you response.I checked with Local distributor of Dish TruHD and they informed me that they dont have a DVR (at this Distributor done have it).I think I'll wait some more time mostly with the next IPL we might see more HD promotions... For it seems only Travel XP is the only difference. rest are all with Sun Direct as well (or other DTH servcies). The issue with upscaled or regular DTH channels is while the upscaled are stretched by Setup-box, the DTH are screen my TV. I own a 40" Samsung LED. And you can easily make out the different in clarity -- 4:3 vs 16:9 in it. Lol.. I also have a Hathway cable with setup-box and the picture quality look very similar (in most channels like HBO, Star movies) to that of the DTH service.I think the HD DTH services in India have a very long way to go. I work of USA based telcom/DTH service company. They had a NFL match in HD - 3D. And they presently have a option of about 100 HD channels (nope non of these are upscaled).List of Verizon’s HD Channels Available in New York CityABC Family HDAction MaxAction Max WestAt MaxBio. Indian.Maveric That many HD channels would need two things in India

1). A Decade to get technically sound to serve this much

2). Monthly pricing more than EMI of your car,
cause currently most DTH operators just want their names in HD list, no matter what crap they give, and for every interesting channel you pay more, more more.

I am throwing DISH HD soon, because (edit, forgot to clarify)

1). Since their guy replaced my LNB, i don't see HD channels, even what was free is gone :- (

2). After multiple complaints that I need this to be fixed and Specifically asking customer care to send someone only after 2PM as i do night shift
their tech person gave me 20 calls during my sleep (10 AM to 12 noon), I had to put my phone on silent and had this phone torture for 3 days, then a sweet sms that your complaint has been resolved, and we are sorry we cannot reach you on your phone
don't know WTF resolved means when your guys can't read customer's requested
working window. And i am sure i didn't spoke french, or Spanish while requesting support.

3). Rs.100 they take for HD, gives only Discover, Nat Geo HD only, for everything else, you have a surprise with a new price tag even if you are already paying Rs.500 a month thats a pain in ___ you know where.

4). I am planning to throw Dish HD receiver from my balcony for few reasons.

I do want to check if Dish HD, STB is shock proof and can sustain a shock when thrown without any extra efforts from second floor of the building, this would help me write about the more hidden features i notice upon such Executions :hysterical:

planning to go with a HD DVR now.

Ur comments on HD Channels is to the point.....We can get that much, not before the 24th/25th Century!!Btw, D2h has just yesterday announced 1 3D HD channel....check out that thread.....first hand info available is still pretty raw, but 3D is there for sure.....So, i think this will be the buzz word for a few days, starting today morning.
