If one is getting a new AP, get one that conforms to 802.11ax or 802.11ay if you've got the budget. AC standard is dead.

AC is still there as most widely used one.
Except recent flagships none of the phones got ax for now.

Buying an AX/AY router would futureproof your purchase. Why is no one in this forum planning for futureproofing anyway?

Because by the time AX clients becomes more common, AX APs/routers will be way cheaper and better.

Yes, doesn't make sense to invest on AX APs at this point, atleast for my use cases. 200-300 Mbps which a decent AC AP can provide is more than enough for me.

Also, a single AP is never the solution IMO.

If you want to future proof, get a decent X86 router, and use separate APs. Whenever AX becomes the norm you can simply swap the APs. Going for an all-in-one router cum AP cum whatever IMHO is not future proofing.

@varkey @JB700 Yes. I mistakenly typed router instead of AP.

I mean buying an AX/AY AP is better than AC due to the improved performance. For that matter, AX is already finalised and a sealed deal.
AY however is not yet finalised.

Ax router are too costly now.
Second his requirements is 100mbps or maybe 200 to 300 in near future.
Third nothing is future proof in tech industry.
Imo spend wisely.
Rest let him decide.
