hello......

Can u tell me what exactly SNR and line attenuation are??

and what is the relationship between them??

all I know is the higher the SNR and the lower the line attenuation the better it is............

what is the optimum stats???

here's my stats>>
downstream upstream

SNR margin(db) 10.9 16.7
attenuation(db) 8.0 4.0

are these stats good?? or just about ok? or bad??

is there any software for my SL2_141 wireless type II modem to increase
the SNR margin??

OS: win 98 se
plan: BSNL home 500
modem/router: siemens SL2_141 wireless type II modem

SNR is signal to noise ratio...The higher the SNR the better.
Line attenuation gives you some idea about cable strength, lower it is better for the connection.

your download snr is little less that what it should be for good connection, but if you are getting good speed and no frequent disconnections, it really doesnt matter. How far you are from exchange and how good your telephone wire is...are the factors that determine it.

If you want to better the connection...make sure there are no parallel lines attached before splitter, no crappy joints and wire is not broken.

well thanx for the reply..........

I think I need a change of wirings coz my wire has been pierced here and there by rats........lol

I heard that SNR is all about stability and as long as it is over 10 it wont harm the speed........well I never get disconnected......and my attenuation is low too........

still i went to this website where there are a number of tweaks on SNR and dual latency.....for some selected modems........but not for my SL2_141 modem....

Translated version of http://dmt.mhilfe.de/

can u tell me any software which increases or atleast claims to increase The SNR margin? for SL2_141 modem.....?

does SNR affect speed???????? plz answer d last question.............coz i am a download buff.........:)

Modem Siemens sl2_141 slow speed ? low SNR

1.Please post Device Status from your modem to check a possible FW update.
http://i22.tinypic.com/152byh3.jpg
2. Post the ADSL page screen shot for checking reason for low SNR.
3. Check speed at speedtest.net say Melbourne server.
4. WIN98 can you upgrade to WInXP SP2? ( later)

hey
take a look at my attenuation...........it's so low!!

perhaps coz........my house is very near to the exchange( it's almost behind my house)

I recently read an article where it said that SNR margin from 11--15 is good.........and no disconnection wud occur in it.........and anything over it means ,one has a very good connection........

but as my speed is from 256 kbps-2 mbps ..........the SNR margin decreases as speed increases......perhaps coz of that my SNR margin is about 11

anywayz...thanx for helping me out...........

here's the screenshot.

no essebebe it's not possible currently to upgrade to win XP as

my ram is only 128 mb.........and I'm gonna buy a new pc shortly......

here's th screenshot of devise info......ie ADSL mode

Open this Page select one by one
Keep Bitswap enabled and SRA disabled ( (Don't ask why! More practical less theory !)
http://i19.tinypic.com/6kqygzt.jpg
You may loose connection sometimes for a single selection.
Check SNR/Attn figures. Probably GDMT will be best.
Line speed also will reduce to 2000 to 5000Kbps.
Give feedback.
ParaTwo : please edit all duplicate entries in previous post.
Data for each Mod no need to post screen shots. Type the info.
Post screen shot for only the best. SNR/Attn/MOd/attainable rate.

I already have the settings u have given in the above post.....I dont know how to change the mode from adsl2 to adsl to GDMT..etcso plz help..........coz the page where the link given by you points( in the above post by essebebe)also has all the boxes vizadsl 2+ adsl, GDMT, T1.413, GLITE etc checked..........just like I have....so I'm confusedmeanwhile I have removed the splitter and connected the "line"directly with "adsl" modem.......this has increased the SNR margin by atleast 1 db.......

meanwhile I have removed the splitter and connected the "line"
directly with "adsl" modem.......
Restore the connection.
Idont know how to change the mode from adsl2 to adsl to GDMT..etc
In DSL page uncheck adsl and ADSL2+ only. SAVE /Reboot.Wait for two minutes.
Check SNR/ line speed.
