My Sharp inverter AC has a bad leak in the cooling coil. So it's time to get a new one. Many users have mentioned that Voltas is a good buy considering the 5 years warranty. Kindly suggest some models?

Looks like they have changed the extended warranty thing. Now you need to pay 2990 for it, however you get 10 services as well (I think?) so still a good deal

my parents have used Samsung, LG, Daikin, Sharp, Hitachi split acs at different points of time. None of them lasted more than 4-5 years. I guess it might be area specific as well since the issue almost always was gas leakage

Voltas and Carrier have both worked fine
Whenever you are done using the AC, run the blower for 15-30 mins depending on what speed you run at.
The coolant pipe being colder than the surrounding air provides a conducive condition for the growth of moulds and other fungi. This could , at times, lead to foul smell when you start using AC next time.
By blowing the warm air, you remove the coldness in the pipe and hence bring the pipe and the air to the same temps inhibiting growth of fungi.

Read the whole thread. While there are good info here what I cannot understand is how a variable-cooling-capacity AC work in terms of saving power. Say you have a 1.5T AC. It reaches your set room temp (say 25 degrees) in half an hour or so and once the same is reached it starts slowing the compressor down and retains it at certain level of power to maintain the set temp. Now, if you lower the cooling capacity after the set temp is reached, say by 50%, then the compressor is working at only 0.75T (right?), thereby it should have to work for longer thus resulting in more power consumption to maintain the set temp? Am I missing something here?

There is a slight increase in temp, which is barely noticeable by human body but accurately detected by the sensor. This also leads to power fluctuation but not huge. After reaching 25C, the compressor slows down which causes the temp to increase from, say, 25 to 25.2 or 25.5. After reaching 25.2, the compressor again increases its speed to reach 25C and the cycle continues. So now instead of working in the 30C(ambient temp) to 25C window, it now works between 25.3C to 25C window thereby lower power consumption.

The power consumption is determined by the speed at which compressor rotates and not the duration. Take the example of running a sprint race(non-inv ac) versus running a marathon(inv ac).
In sprint race, you go full power within the shortest time. But you cannot sustain that speed for long, hence after reaching your destination(temp) you stop. Then again, you go full power and stop continuing the cycle.
In marathon, after having a sufficient gap between yourself and your competitor, you slow down a bit(compressor), thereby reducing power and conserving energy. After sometime, when your competitor is close to you(25.3C), you increase your speed(power) to increase gap(reach 25C)and this cycle continues.

You might feel that the compressor is running at full power under power saving, but it is only the ODU fan which is spinning. The compressor is probably rotating at, say 100-200 rpm at 40% capacity which is very less when it runs at ~1000rpm at full capacity.

Just realized that this AC increases the temperature gradually if you put it in sleep mode. If I'm not wrong it increases the thermostat temperature by 1 degree after every hour till it increases temperature by 2 degrees.

Yup, that is how sleep mode functions. 1 degree/hour is normal. In my case it does 1 degree/half hour or 2degress in 1 hour, which is lame.

At 27 it makes the room too cool, takes it down to 25 straightway.

At 28 it lets the room stay warm.

Gajab duwidha hai.

i think it's humidity causing the problem right now in delhi ncr. i think my ac fails to cool at 26 this week. even 24 feels terrible. but i can just put it on max for 10 minutes and it's freezing cold.

@Samuel you can try keeping it at 27C and reducing the tonnage see which one suits you. Even in my case running at 27C causes it to go to 25C causing headache, I run it at 0.6 ton(at nights).
Another thing I do is increase the blower speed. When air moves fast, then it won't cool the air that much hence temps won't easily fall below 27C.
