Some beginner questions about Reliance Jio Fiber

Hi, I have jiofiber cables being laid nearby and as per them they would be giving connections in my locality sometime next month. So before that I thought of asking some questions from the community here. I do not have any other options except local cables and they are notorious.

1) How long is the power cord of the modem? This is so I can understand where to put this in the room.

2) Is it possible the modem to be put on the desk or have to be fixed on wall?

3) Can I do some "jugaad" to run the modem via power bank in case of power cut or an UPS is better?

4) In case modem is reset, do I have to set any username/password inside the modem or is it auto-configured?

5) I saw in the forum that some topics say in case of CCTV they allow port forwarding on some specific ports. Is it possible to ask them to open some port and use the same port in torrent for port forwarding?

6) When the jiofiber guys come to install, do they do any sort of wiring that leaves permanent mark on the walls?

7) Do the modem has enough range to cover 15 feet in wifi, two walls in between? Otherwise I would have to keep in a different room to get signal all over.

1) About 1 meter.
2) Yes better on a desk or shelf. My unit does not have wall mounting option. Even if its there God knows how long that plastic wil hold. Heat deteriorates plastic.
3) If you have regular power cuts or power quality is suspect the use a proper UPS to run the PC & modem.
4) You only have control over parts of the wifi router not the modem.
5) Never used this option.
6) Guys who came to my place were neat & tidy. And I was also there to supervise. But be v sure where the holes have to be drilled etc.
7) Cant comment. If you have dead spots then you will have to use a additional router etc.

In my case the guys who did the installation did not have a computer. They were using their phone to set our passwords. So I connected the modem via a cable to my PC & did the setting up of SSID & passwords.
I would suggest use a temporary SSID & passwords for a day. or atleast till the Jio guys are out of sight. once your connection is stable then change both. The reason is many including me had strange devices connecting to out networks & we were advised by a senior Jio guy to change SSID & password.

2. There are 2 models and depends on luck on what you get in your box. Although both models can be kept in any configuration if you push it but one is designed for wall and other on desk. Maybe you can ask the installation person beforehand which one you want so that process is smoother.
3. UPS is idea. I have one at home for full house and Modem is almost nothing load on it. I have run it on power banks before in emergency before I got UPS and from personal experience it won't last long apart from severely accelerating the death of your power bank in many cases.
4. You can set wifi password using the their app from phone in case of reset. Look up the procedure online or talk to the service guy/customer care in advance.
5. First of all torrents will work first class on jio fiber even without port forwarding provided you have not done strict settings on your system. As for port forwarding asking them for torrenting is not required and will obviously won't work. I have though asked them for CCTV's as well and one of the ports I use to run an exit tor relay so there's that.
6. No marks as such, just those small white plastic clips with nails to hold the wire in position. However the place where wire enters your house (wall/window) might need some permanent alteration and might leave marks if not done properly.
7. Yeah easily. I get it on the roof of the house and outside the main door as well on 2.4 Ghz. 5 Ghz might be more of a challenge outside the house but inside upto 2 walls in a straight line it should work.

Possibly setup the Jio App and JioJoin app at the time of setup only. You can use a landline also so you can have that. Above recommendation to change SSID's & Passwords is a must.

I would advise to change some additional settings of DNS, Firewall etc too but that can be separately talked about after you have a working connection and access modem settings at hand in front of you.

Thank you both for replying, I had some workload so wasn't able to check before. Will be getting the connection in early december as they are still working nearby poles everyday.

Two more questions, if you have noticed any traffic shaping ie, some sites may be intentionally slowed down, or internationally peering poor etc? I know about the blocking of sites, thats not an issue. And in case you ever needed to contact them for things like cable cut, do you do via Jio's customer care or directly to local guys?

I would suggest not to torrent . It’s outdated tech. Spend some money on dirt cheap seedbox to torrent on virtual server and download from it by https.

Torrenting is torrenting. How is torrenting for free outdated but torrenting after paying money worth it? It's not like Torrenting via Seedbox is going to give you wings. It's just going to cost you money.

I raise a complaint via their MyJio app incase of any problems(cable cut etc.) and it gets solved the same day.
Though the guys who come to fix the complaint say to call them directly and not raise a service request.
