I want to get Static IP, because I have some self-hosted services that I want to safely expose to the internet. However, I have a couple of concerns before I apply for it.
Currently, I'm using the XZ000-G3 V1 as the ONT and dial PPPoE from my TP-Link Archer C6 V2. Internet access is important as my sister have long hours of meetings daily, so I need the transition to Static IP to be without any downtime. Will it be seamless, or I'll have no internet access for days until my request is successfully processed?
Should I mention to the Airtel Customer Care that I use my own ONT and Router, so they just need to provide me the static IP details and I'll configure the WAN config myself and I don't need any technician visit? Or, do I reintroduce the Nokia G-2425G-A in my network setup for the time being, and after they TR069 the WAN config for static IP, I copy them to my router? WAN Settings and even basic config like DNS and DHCP are locked out in that crap, so I guess the technician won't be visiting?

Right now, port forwarding works only on some higher ports like 8000, 9000, 9001, etc. and all lower ports are blocked as well as common ports like 80, 443, 853, 8080, 8443 are blocked. These ports don't work even in my TP-Link routers, so that must mean it's blocked from the ISP side itself. I expect static IP does have these ports configurable, so the user can decide if the router firewall should allow certain ports or not, without calling customer care. Yes, it's basic expectations from static IP, but it's Indian ISPs we're talking about, so I want to confirm that beforehand.

Lastly, about 2 years ago, when I requested static IP directly from the Airtel engineer in my locality, he gave me the mail id of a certain person, probably a backend engineer, but he never responded after multiple mails and I gave up. How do I request for Static IP now? And, in the future if I ever feel that it's causing me issues, can I revert back or cancel it?

@xtreameFibre and, replace the ONT with that stock ONT again? Or, inform them that I use my own ONT and to tell me the static IP details. The reason I'm asking is idk if they're gonna mess up with my connection intentionally if they hear I'm not using their crap ONT.

Also, port forwarding in 80 and 443 works or not?

I don't know if you need to replace the ONT back with the Airtel one. When I first requested for static IP, I was using their stock Nokia ONT only, their technician called for a home visit to configure static IP, I just asked him to tell me the static IP, I will do it myself and I did it, it started working right away.

One more thing, internet didn't go down because PPPoE connection also running parallelly, like I could use the static IP or the dynamic IP with PPPoE by changing the settings in the ONT.

Yes, all the ports were open with static IP, and they were also open in dynamic IP because you get a public IP address when you are connected with PPPoE mode.

I mailed net@airtel.com, for Static IP, 2 days ago. Today, I got a call for confirmation of Static IP and I accepted it, and they informed that an engineer will be appointed, who will contact me and do the rest.

I immediately received texts, stating that a service request was raised for "installation appointment". Weird, why installation appointment? But, I ignored it.

Few hours later, Airtel engineer of my locality calls me up and asks what's the issue and I inform him about Static IP. He says, that my mail was wrong and service request is raised, nothing about static ip mentioned. And, tells me that he'll ask his boss tomorrow and ask me to mail again.

What's going on? 😐🙌

@honuti Airtel sent two texts, one is for service request and other for installation appointment order. Service Requests are usually for internet issues like outages, so they closed the SR and next day gave me the Static IP configuration.

It was a long drama tbh, as they mistyped the wrong static ip, so I thought I did something wrong cuz internet wasn't working. Then, asked me to disconnect my own ONT and connect stock ONT, and they messed up the stock ONT configurations too, so even normal PPPoE wasn't working. Then they came home and hard-reset the router and fiddled it with for 2 hours and went away cuz they couldn't so anything, and said they'll come the next day.

After they went, I tried some more and after resetting the ONT by myself, I set all ports to bridge mode, connected LAN Port 4 to Archer C6 V2 Router and set the wan configurations properly and it worked.

I realized the static ip they provided me was wrong, when I saw them fiddling with the IPv4 configurations when they came home, and their Static IP didn't match what they provided me.

Btw, I didn't know this but, apparently if the backend enables bridge mode, you're third-party ONUs will not work after O5 is established.
