I signed up for a Combo 500 plan in February was quite satisfied with the download speeds. A couple of months later I switched 750 UL plan and since then the speed has reduced drastically. I rarely get more than 30 kbps! This started more or less around the time when one of my bill payments got delayed. Since then my payments have been on time but the problem has persisted. I'm wondering if it got anything to do with it or there's some other problem. Btw, the other day I made a complaint using the BSNL Chennai Customer Care Portal and was amazed to get a call back within 5 mins from a customer service rep! Hats off to the lady who acted so promptly. Still waiting for the fix tho :)Regards,Nadeem

Home 500 speed upto 2 Mbps 256KB/sec Max ( * conditions apply)
UL 750 speed upto=256KBps 32KB/sec Max (* conditions apply)
Your speed has gone down approx by 8 times due to change of plan.
Check speed at speedtest.net say Brisbane server.

30/8= 4KB/sec.
The Dialup connection speed ( NETONE).

Thanks for your reply. I tested the connection at speedtest.net and was almost shocked to see upload and download speeds between 175-200 kbps! I checked for 3 servers, one in Mumbai, another in Bangkok and a third one in San Francisco. I'm even more confused now.-nadeem

Change DNS to 208.67.220.220 and 208.67.222.222and then retest speed. Mention your modem model. Check whether GDMT is selected.Try TCP/IP optimizer from speedguide.net

Modem model: TAD100 (the modem supplied by bsnl stopped working sometime back, so i switched to one that came with a Tata Indicom connection I used to have sometime back). GMDT is enabledI changed the DNS as suggested and got the following results:Destination UL Speed DL SpeedSan Francisco 212 kbps 337 kbpsPerth 242 kbps 257 kbpsRegards,Nadeem

Speed seems Ok. Modem same as Beetel 220BX ( same HW Board and similar menu pages ))If you post screen shot Device status page TAD100 will be helpful in future.( goes to my Database).Thanks.

I changed from a Business 250 plan to Home 750+ plan and my speeds dropped to 32 kBps from around 256 kBps. I checked up with the local JE of BSNL and he told me that since the plan has changed BSNL has limited the speed on my port.My question is "If I change my DNS servers to to 208.67.220.220 and 208.67.222.222 will the port limitation still hold good, or can the speed Increase ?

You are the getting the correct speed that you are supposed to get for the home 750+ plan. Your browsing might be a bit faster with the change in the dns, but otherwise no speed increase whatsoever.

Home 750 is only supposed to give 32 KBps..u r getting the right speed as per your plan.

32 KBps x 8 = 256 kbps
256 KBps x 8 = 2000 Kbps( 2 mbps)
