I have an iPhone 3G which I bought from Vodafone when it launched in India. But now since Airtel is going to launch 3G very soon within next 6-7 days and there is no news about Vodafone so I want to move to Airtel as MNP is also in place. Now the iPhone is locked with Vodafone so will it be possible for me to change my subscriber to Airtel ?

You cannot use a locked iPhone with another carrier. However, you should check with Vodafone if you can get it unlocked. The iPhone was sold in india with a lock in period of one year. What I remember from the terms and conditions on the Airtel site was that they would unlock the iPhone for the customer on request after the end of the lock in period. So Vodafone should also do the same. You might want to check with them before you move to Airtel.

Incase Vodafone refuses to unlock your phone, another alternative would be to Jailbreak & unlock your phone. Then you would be able to use it with any carrier.

I would advise you try the first option. Go for the second option only if the first one fails. Having an officially unlocked phone is the best thing.
