You have mentioned that the FTA channels in sun dth are of MPEG-4 format, if that is the case, will i be able to view the channels, if i purchase the MPEG-4 format STB.

It is possible to receive FTA channels on SUN DIRECT by MPEG-4 STB, but it's risky to invest in MPEG-4 STB's as they are more costly and SUN DTH will not always telecast channels in FTA, once channel testing phase is over, they encrypt that channel

sun dth subscriber here.sun uses mpeg4 telecast and receiver.so it will be impossible for dishtv guys to get sun's channels in dishtv.Sun's package:Rs1999/- for free STB lease+1year subscription charges.then next yr onwards Rs75/month.above all crystal clear pic quality in mpeg4 format :cool:I think no dth players including big dth can beat this offer :pwith sun dth,now we are getting more than 90 channels(possibly 100)+32FM channels(what is the use?) including FTA channels from DD and UTV's 5 channels are added by sun recently that includes 9x,9x,bindass,bindass movie, world movie and 2 more UTV exclusive channels on the way :) sorry,I think SUN dth is not available in north india :-|

Hi, As mentioned in earlier post I have DishTV ... Today I was just meddling around the STB and I entered 13700 as the LNB hi frequency and saved it.

I have zenega stb .. my question to you all ... how come my editing the LNB hi frequency wa I able to scan the sun dth ? I am confused. You can also try it ... Click menu >STB settings >Stb info > click OK > select the LNB setup > change the Hi frequency to 13700 and then save and boot the STB. Then perform a channel search.. AFter your testing is over just follow the same steps and either enter 10600 as Hi frequency or reset the factory settings.

When you changed your LO frequency to 13700 your stb would have actually calculated according to that LO. So you got 11610 V 27500 instead of 12692 Dish tv tp. As your stb is programmed to scan as per NIT it went to add other tps as well

None of the channels are FTA except those FM channels :wall: They were not FTA even when they were testing :(

The channels TV9, Bhakthi TV, TV5 are free channels. If the same channels are being listed in SUN Direct, then why is that it is not getting listed in Dish TV?

^ thanks for the info :-) ...its a bit technical for me to understand at the moment.Anyways thanks a lot for putting the efforts...

One more thing ... Are the signals transmitted from satellites highly directional ? I am referring here to the satellite signal maps which are available on sites like lyngsat. They usually show minimum size of dish to use to collect the signals. But since many satellites have a coverage over any particular area, shouldnt the signals be picked up even without pointing the dish to a particular location ? Sorry for being ..a noob.

These dishes are highly directional. 60cms dish tv dish, would have a beamwidth of 4 degs. That means any satellites within 4 degrees arch can be received without moving the dish or adding additional lnbs. But for that signal should be strong. That is why we are all receiving Dish tv at 95E and DD Direct at 93.5 E. I am receiving DD, Dish tv and Reliance with a single lnb.

If I replace the existing dish (Dish TV installed dish) with 180cms Dish and replace the existing KU band LNB with C-band, will I be able to obtain the Dish TV signal along with Insat 2e,3b, 4a (83 e) because we get lot of free channels in the given satellite which are not in the Dish TV.Could you also tell me, how are you able to obtain the Reliance TP's signal, So that I can also try to change the settings and watch some free channels. I am also from Chennai.

If you use 180cms dish then you can get those satellites. I don't know whether your dish tv stb allows you add tps. If you peek your dish for Insat 4B then automatically Reliance will enter into our lnbs. But Dish tv and Reliance nearly have the same frequencies, polarisations & symbol rates! You will loose few tps either from Reliance or from Dish tv as both clash. There are no FTA channels from Reliance at present. They are using MPEG4.

Are you from which part of Chennai?

Still in C band, Sun Network opens channels like SuryaTV, ChuttiTV and KiranTV as FTA. You can receive these channels with FTA MPEG4 receiver.
