Tamil Nadu government has requested the cable TV operators to support the Arasu Cable TV Corporation to provide cable connections to the public. The cable operators should live up to the assurance given to chief minister M. Karunanidhi in this regard, government officials said. The officials said that the chief minister has instructed the corporation to start the process of giving cable connections from July 15 and it should be extended to all the districts by September end. The cable operators across the state have been already informed to announce their expression of interest for the same by June 9. Tenders have been issued in Thanjavur, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli and Vellore and necessary equipment to give cable connections have been procured and the process of setting them up was on, they said. The call for expressions of operators interest sets in motion a process that may see a majority of the cable operators in Chennai shifting over to the government-run cable corporation from the two existing MSOs - Sumangali Cable Vision (SCV), controlled by the Maran brothers, and Hathway Cable and Datacom.
