Finally TATA GSM Network went commercially live last week starting TN (including chennai) & orissa circles. Next they are going live with the following circles Andhra Pradesh, Kerala & karnataka to complete the south launch. In the two launched circles only prepaid seems to be currently launched, their website says they will launch post paid on 1st July 2009.With this TN / Chennai has the highest numbers of telecom operators in india in both GSM & CDMA categories whose network is commercially live:1. Aircel GSM2. Airtel GSM3. Vodafone GSM4. BSNL GSM5. Reliance CDMA6.Reliance GSM7. TATA CDMA8. TATA GSM9. Idea GSM10. Shyam Sistema CDMA11. Loop Telecom GSM (Limited Launch in TN on May11, 2009, not commercially active)In this list I have excluded BSNL CDMA being CDMA in FWT/FWP or simply WLL mobile. Other Operators due to launch in Chennai / TN circles are:1. Videocon Datacom GSM 2. Etisalat (previously SWAN) GSM3. Telenor (previously Unitech Wireless) GSMPhew!!! thats a quite a number of operators... :O:S;)

^^Don't forget Virgin GSM which will run on Tata GSM network!

i dont think its confirmed yet. but it still is likely to happen. :Di am waiting to see the handsets virgin launches on gsm.

Virgin in INDIA is not an licensed UASL / CMTS telecom operator. unless & untill it chooses to particiapte in UASL/3G license auction or comes through the M&A- Merger & Aquisition route. It is only a Airtime & handset reseller (well... thats how it is to be called as of now.. & not as MVNO- Mobile Virtual Network Operator as MVNO services are not legalised / licensed in india yet.. although talks are going on the same).Currently it is selling Airtime of TATA indicom CDMA network (& hopes to do so for TATA DOCOMO GSM network too) & also are selling handsets from OEM vendors. Both product and services (meaning handset & network) are branded Virgin Mobiles and sold as a package to customers. This way Virgin markets & makes a cut with out incurring any CAPEX or OPEX costs. The operating company is content on the revenues brought in by resellers both in terms of Airtime & handset sale separetly..:yahoo::thumbsup:

TATA DOCOMO is Launching in Karnataka today(09.07.2009)..Stay Tuned

tata docomo executives are roaming in chennai for booking connections. they have started stalls at malls and roadside also..

Just read that per TRAI, Tata has the least congested network. May be because no one uses :hysterical: Airtel is the second least congested network. Surprising  Reliance has the most congested.

I wish number portability comes around fast. Things will change dramatically in the market.
