Just call them and ask for an upgrade directly, I'm sure that they'll be more than happy to assist
Today, I got it activated. So will call them after 2 days. :)

Activate one of the South Indian language package(Kannada, Tamil, Telugu or Malayalam). After a day or so send the sms "Y" to 56633. They will call you to replace the box.
Is it necessary to activate South Indian Package ? Me and TS executive, both will laugh knowing it is being done for STB upgrade. :p

Currently they are upgrading it for free only for South Indian and Bengali/Oriya packages. Some one mentioned that even English channels are moving to MPEG4 but they haven't migrated any English channels yet.

I have Grand Sports pack (Rs.430+100 HD Access Fee).
I will call them after 2 days and check if they are willing to upgrade it.
Otherwise, lets see when do I get an offer for upgrade.

Got it changed today to MPEG-4 SD box with no warranty. It's extremely small in size and menu has a bit of delay.
i got the free upgrade a week back. i got 1-yr warranty (the executive said) , free replacement till 1 month from the day of installation.
i find this box damn fast compared to my previous silver color box.

I called Tata Sky today but the executive told me that I will have to pay Rs.500/- for MPEG-4 SD upgrade and will have to pay regular price of Rs.1800/- for upgrade to HD box.
I told him that my friend got upgraded for free to MPEG-4 and he was offered HD box @999/-.
He said this offer is for some particular customers who got SMS or message on their Tata Sky box, not for all. In future, this offer might be available for me but not now. :pissed-off:
I am Tata Sky customer since 2009 with 4 boxes since day one and now I have 1 HD+, 2 HD and 1 SD box. TS has no respect for old high spending customers. :mad ():

I have told you earlier too. Subscribe to any of the south indian add on package and request for change of box after couple of days and they will change it for free.

Any suggestions which is cheapest add on package that runs on Mpeg-4 ?
Can it be free regional add-on, which is Hindi & Punjabi for me presently (I and my family members don't watch ANY of the channels included in these packs).

All the regional add-on packs are of Rs25. You can probably change one of your Hindi or Punjabi pack to, say, Telugu and ask for free exchange :)
List of channels on MPEG-4 will help in selecting proper add-on. :)
