What rubbish?
12 transponders * 12 channels = 144 channels. Drop the radio channels from the current channel count. They are only audio streams. Bandwidth requirement is minimal. So Tata-Sky is currently broadcasting 119 - 8 = 111 channels (including the absolutely idiotic Showcase channels. They should be called Mentalcase). And some channels (mostly Zee) are anyway being broadcast at lower bitrates.
There is not going to be any picture quality loss on the mainstream channels. There is still some room to play with.
Tata Sky surely has room for some more channels.
Also after case solved, a relief for other viewers, becoz as now TATASKY are sure about TAMIL channels onboard, they will start looking for other channels (Marathi ???

Pray for it. I think some one should start a Tata-Sky = Anti-Marathi if it does not include so-and-so channels thread. We can thrash this issue out over there. Already there is a Tata-Sky is an idiot for not including sports channels thread and all the sports maniacs are camping there. This thread will die out soon because the sun has risen finally.

Tata-Sky has sufficient tps. The problem lies either in their unwillingness or incompetence as regards channel acquisition. Lets hope that it finds some sense and adds a few more channels before every goes crazy and starts throwing their set top boxes out of the window like in their original advert.

It is well known thing that Dish tv will add Sun channels. For all those dancing Tata Sky customers: You all should have thought atleast for a second that "If a greedy who is not even willing to pay money to others and not at all thinking about its customers like Tatasky can get channels in their DTH then that means any DTH can get those channels."
Who knows may be this time too Dish tv might win by adding Sun channels first. Mind you Tatasky doesn't have any free Tps left and Dish tv has 1 more Tp left.
If Tatasky adds Sun channels then definetly they will loose some picture quality.

NEW DELHI: Dish TV has an agreement with Sun TV Ltd to offer these southern language channels to its direct-to-home (DTH) subscribers, but only when Kalanithi Maran is ready with his own DTH platform.
Tata Sky has already reached a settlement with Sun TV Ltd for taking all the channels on a bundled basis. Company officials were not willing to spell out the financial details of the deal or when Tata Sky would start beaming the Sun channels.
So for the two existing DTH players, the plate on offer for the southern viewers would be full. They were earlier handicapped with Sun blocking off its channels.
During the case in the Telecom Disputes Settlement Appellate Tribunal (Tdsat), Tata Sky had stressed that by being denied the Sun channels, it was losing out huge business from the southern market.
so this means Dish TV will have sun channels only after sun direct is launched, and dont be so happy with ur dish, and talking abt picture quality, TS is much better than Dish.

I’m sure Tata Sky also will start beaming the channels only when sun direct is launched, 'coz sun direct can only get customers from southern states and more specifically only in TN. If Tata sky starts beaming sun channels a couple months before sun direct launch I’m sure Tata sky with its cleaver marketing strategy would hire some brand ambassador like Surya, Madavan, Trisha or even Shreya and increase their DTH market share in southern states. Also Dish TV doesn't like to be discriminated in this regard as they are also waiting with their own agreement. So logically I believe we still have to wait till Sun directs launch which is now postponed to December due to issues with importing the Taiwanese STBs.

Even in case of dishtv, this waiting till sun direct launch, must have been as per the old agreement, when they were supporting sun against tatasky in tdsat dispute. Otherwise dishtv will threaten to take sun to tdast. Both dth operators will get sun at the same time, but launching will depend on their internal convenience - bouquets and pricing.

Tata Sky people are very smart! If you visit the website of Tata Sky under the list of Channels, if you see it is written in little fonts that Tata Sky reserves the right to add or drop any channel at any point of time. So, beware before you take a connection who knows that they may add some channel now to entice the customer and drop it after sometime when they take the connection.:madness:
