It is MPEG -2 but it doesn't affect audio and pic quality it just hepls in adding more channels per transponder but dishtv have enough transponder space available
Dishtv uses MPEG 2 technology, But MPEG 2 and MPEG 4 technology have no difference in picture and audio quality, these are just compression techniques and helps broadcasters to put on more channels on less number of transponders.
