see... linux is made up of several parts. distro is a combination of several parts which has been modified by a company or a group to suit a particular requirement. each of them have a similar backend. the distro decides what you see in the front end. fedora, suse, ubuntu are all distros of LINUX. you pick up the version you like or think is suitable for your requirement.
