i am also having probs in setting up anetwork conn.can u tell me how to do that?

i asked this question before... you are dialing manually to connect to net or your modem does that for you?what kind of a network are u talking about?

i also like the theme (called Infinity) of the upcoming Fedora 8 which will come in Nov.In my opinion, forget about Fedora, since you have already tried Ubuntu, stick with it.When openSuse 10.3 is released next month you can try the KDE CD. Then you can decide whether you prefer KDE or GNOME (Ubuntu) desktop.If GNOME is your choice then install Ubuntu 7.10 coming in Oct.If KDE is your preference then install openSuse 10.3 (KDE CD) also coming in Oct.phew, i hope this completes your adventures and not too many more posts in this thread :) im getting sick of it

yaar gussa kyo hote ho?
asking quetions is not a crime.is it?

now that would be a bit more complicated. i do not know how do you work with a dialer on linux. other people here should be able to help on that.heh. he is just annoyed that you kept on asking questions which are technically already answered here. :D

if it were a crime, you would get multiple life sentences of rigorous imprisonment! :)yea, manual dialling is a bit tricky, i let the modem dial so i just use DHCP/LAN, Ubuntu autodetects it for me...you can try looking in the "System" menu, under Preferences or Administration for some Networking setup and try to configure an ADSL connection through there.i hope your modem is connected thru LAN and not USB, since USB can be an additional hassle which might not work...

:rofl::rofl:
yes,my modem is connected thru lan.

and i thought u dial only when the modem is connected to the comp through USB... can dialing also work with ethernet based connectivity?the first step i guess for him would be to get the modem detected in linux. so we would need the model name...

yep, dialling works via ethernet cable as well... thats the whole "bridged" mode thing i guess, although i've never tried dialling thru the OS, i just let the modem do the pppoe dialling...@abtom:nope, i don't know how to go about setting up a dialled ADSL connection, sorryfor that you should STFW for HOWTOs and screenshots etc, or try looking around the menus/configs yourself...
