Police ask Delhi-Gurgaon e-way operator to ensure smooth traffic flow - Delhi - City - The Times of India

With no respite from traffic jams at the toll plaza on Delhi-Gurgaon expressway, Gurgaon police have

come down heavily on the
expressway's concessionaire firm DSC Ltd and have asked it to adopt measures to
reduce waiting time at the 32-lane toll plaza.

Traffic police has instructed the operator to open the toll barriers in case the line of vehicles exceeds 100 metres and construct at least 16 more toll gates. Police want the operator to give more incentives to motorists who use smart tags, and also directed it not to close the toll gates unless there is an emergency.

originally from what i have read... the toll plaza was to allow free flow of traffic if the waiting time is more than 2-3 minutes. that limit was later increased to 10 minutes. currently i am not sure if there is any limit because they NEVER allow the free flow of traffic.

100 meters is not a short distance. but it is still something. it is rather painful to think about visiting delhi during rush hours because of this toll plaza.

you end up wasting enough time on this crossing even though you have a smart tag.

and of course... there is no incentive for people who use smart tag with a longer validity.

There should be drastic improvements for smooth flow of tag lanes and cash lanes.

someone left a comment on my blog...

Dwarka residents have won an year-long battle against the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and made it to agree to upload the agreement it entered into with Jaypee-DSC for the construction and oper- ation of the Gurgaon Expressway on its official web- site.
With this, the agreement would now be under public scrutiny.

Running into 400 pages, the voluminous agreement between NHAI and Jaypee DSC Ventures Limited was signed on April 18, 2002 for the con- struction of 27.7 km long 8/6 lane Gurgaon Expressway, between Rao Tula Ram Marg (Delhi) and village Kherki Daula (Gurgaon) on National Highway No. 8.

Costing about Rs. 1000 crore, the project was awarded on built-operate-transfer (BOT) basis.

\\"Action has already been ini- tiated to up load the agreement on the website of NHAI,\\" read an email from V K Rajawat, deputy general manager (Technical), NHAI to Rejimon CK, president of Dwarka Forum, the residents' body that has been fighting for the cause of the commuters of Gurgaon Expressway for a long time.

apparently NHAI does not know the spelling of agreement.

Gurgaon expressway toll rates up after 22-hour delay

“NHAI has defended every move of DSC Ltd. Forget about the mismanagement and the accident deaths. The only interest they have is money,” said Prashant Yadav, a resident of Palam Vihar.

“The traffic management is worsening by the day on the Expressway. What are they hiking the rate for?” said Manoj Rathee, a Haryana government official.
