Imagine you have 100 users in a circle, out of them 10 are your high paying customers paying 100 p.m. The next 20 do, 80 and the rest are dual SIM users paying 5.
Your ARPU goes as - 1000+1600+350(!!) = 29.5 [If you want investment from others, you cannot publish such report even if you are failing in business]
If you think about it this way, then you'd rather focus on the higher-paying customer since they pay the real bills even if the pool is smaller; making it 87.
You also need to remember that they need to scale customer support and infra based on total users and not based on usage.
 
I am not referring to operators that are doing well..when you have stragglers like Vi and BSNL who struggle to make money from operations a loss of revenue impacts them more. Telecom is very high cost business and keeping the Co alive ie one that is surviving is also important to creditors and not to mention the Govt as a protector of customer interest and of course for back taxes and other revenues. As for shareholders it takes one hardly any time to sell their shares in the Cos as many did with Vi. Those still holding Vi shares are only doing so in the full knowledge that they are taking a big risk. BSNL? Less said the better. A leech like most other PSUs.

With those riding the wave like Jio and Airtel, they could certainly choose to jettison customers with low ARPU should they choose to. Plus the industry has raised its basic recharge prices. Ironically I pay more for the Vi sim than I do for Airtel and Jio.

PS - I get a better deal on prepaid than on my postpaid connections. The prepaid ones get the best deals from all 3 operators.
 
@SVK of course it should but then the baseline recharge prices are rising to increase their ARPUs. We've all seen it happen over the past 2 years or so.
 
Offtopic but guys is there any way to make my number international?

Suppose I have a number +918787878787 & I want to take it to USA and have +18787878787 (Like Porting to US operator). So is it possible?

I'm not talking about roaming.
