Ofcourse it should happen..The question to be asked is.. Would it benefit the consumers ? If the answer is Yes..then it probably won't happen.

even in gud time employees of psus dont want to have their cos touched by the word privatisation. in current scenario privatisation wud be = plague n ull see flash strikes n dharnas all over.... goodbye to whatever connectivity we have rite now even:whistle:

Interesting, so does unbundling the last mile necessarily imply privatisation ?

ofcourse it doesnt..disinvestment is a separate issue..govt can sure unbundle the infrastructure without selling its stake..But BSNL/MTNL employees are really touchy about anybody mentioning the P word and the organisations themselves are hyper abt LLU..

it will certainly bring pvt cos closer n that will = tight rope walk for govt = bad idea during election year + recession year. doesnt make political sense durin lok sabha polls. Also no economic sense because u need more jobs now. this can be done by creating more infrastructure. so if 5 pvt cos duplicate infra of copper wires = 5 times jobs created = happy people = more votes = right decision. no one cares for a few teenagers + young adults gettin high cost bb @home. nor shud they care cuz theis segment never comes to vote so they dont matter. plus this population segment is rich enough to pay for what they consume. atleast cant be done now. maybe in better eco+pol atmosphere but employees will still try their level best to stall it. but it needs to be eventually done and will be done.

PSU's would probably use this as 'revenue of last resort' :frown:

:hysterical::rofl::hysterical:Only I don't laugh when my usage is grossly over metered. In fact I am going to approach Airtel to find out if they have started operations in my area.

Have a look at this article dated 24 March, 2004: ISPs get Trai clearance for last-mile copper link-up- Indiatimes - Infotech

It says: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) has recommended that internet service providers should be able to directly reach enterp
rises and homes through copper connections.

So TRAI knows everything yet, nothing has been done till date. I guess ULL is not possible in India.

But, if this has been deployed in other countries, why is India not ready to implement it?

Actually TRAI in its recommendations advised DOT to unbundle the local loop. But DoT bluntly rejected it in its broadband policy saying that this will lead to disaster siting examples of some Countries? I really don't know what could have been the disaster. DoT as always is short sighted and they are of the opinion that they should not accept all TRAI recommendations. And another thing everyone should not is TRAI is only a regulator and can give only recommendations. DoT is the one who implements and amends a policy.
