On January 2025 Vi rolled out Non Stop Hero Plans which give Full Day Unlimited Data* Instead of there usual Hero and Super Hero plans which offer 12am to 6 am and 12 am to 12 pm unlimited 4G usage More details here
Why i want this plan?
I am someone who loves to use my phone on 1 single charge per day ,that means i need to last till 11:30pm everyday and anyhow to maintain the whole 1 charge cycle per day thing and using 5G is battery draining even with a Modem like X70 on my iPhone 15 Plus running iOS 18.5 ,so i plan to use use this PLAN for unlimited 4G and switch off 5G completely.
I'll probably write about why i do this later someday ,the whole 1 charge single per day so stay tuned
what are my options?
Since i live in Mumbai Circle ,this plan is simply not available in Mumbai Circle and the best i can get for 4G is Super Hero packs or Unlimited 5G at 299Rs a month but then it counteracts from my battery saving needs
What i could do?
Use Jio's 4G unlimited plan
but then it has several choke points where it stops working completely example Andheri Station Mumbai ,despite 4G CA it gives potatoish 1mbps or lower . Also .Jio's 4G has improved drastically but unlimited 4G costs 650Rs a month which is a lot if you do a simple math calulation i.e. 650Rs X 13 months = 8,437 Per Year (which is too much for me)
This is where i thought about getting a Vi Sim card from the circle where Non stop hero plans are actually available such as Kolkata
Experience while buying Prepaid Vi sim card from store (Dum Dum, Kolkata)
They said in Prepaid you will get used number and that might be from someone who has a pending loan and loan sharks may trouble you ,yeah this was actually told to me and later the employee said you should get postpaid to avoid this
I still choose to get a prepaid sim and before finalizing I verified if the number was fresh or not by just doing a simple Truecaller check ,the number didn't have any name hence i took it
FRC is 365Rs SuperHero Plan ,once this is over i can Recharge with the Nonstop Hero Plan worth 398Rs
Overall i wasn't Forced as heavily as stores in Mumbai do
NOTE : While Buying the new prepaid sim card from kolkata circle ,they usually ask for aadhaar card only but since my aadhaar card has an address of Mumbai. I was asked to show a proof of address (local kolkata address) , since i was so keen on getting this sim card. I pulled some strings and got help from my friend who gave his proof of address (electricity bill) and then i was finally given a Kolkata Circle Vi sim
On 23rd May 2025 i brought the sim card to Mumbai and enabled data roaming to get data services
For some reason it kept connecting to Kolkata servers only in Ookla speedtest by default
BUT it was WORKING without any speed caps or drops
Speedtest results :
1.First and Early speedtests : 12:39 AM
2. Airtel 4G vs Vi 4G (deep inside my home) at 12:59 AM
3. By 1AM due to less tariff i was getting 100mbps + on Vi 4G with Data Roaming
4. Vi 4G at 6:33Am ,wayy faster then Airtel 4G in my home
5.On top of the Super Hero 12am to 12pm plan ,Vi is also offering 10GB free a month (no wonder there ARPU is tanked)
6. Finally the most important thing for me was if there was an option to buy the Non stop hero plan after coming in Mumbai and yes after still being in Mumbai i was getting the Option to Recharge with the new 398 Full Day Unlimited Data plan
I will keep updating if this method of buying a vi sim from a different circle and then going back to home circle works or not as time goes by
