Oh didn't knew abt U2, etc that SUN package needed to subscribe to watch it. BTW 9X is not FTA. It is now a paid channel

Agreed that (less popular) FTA channels may be paying carriage fees to remain on-board (like INDIA TV :) ), but if a paid channel also paying carriage fee then what's meaning of 'pay'. Who is actually paying them?
As per theory we pay to watch 'pay' channel.

9X is FTA in DD dth. Paid channel means we(customers) need to pay them. Tata Sky will get a share of that amount what we pay. Eg. If XXX costs Rs.20 per month then Tatasky will take some amount and the rest will be given to that XXX channel.

They make agreements in such a way that both will be in a win win situation. That way Tatasky will get some money which will mean they get money for uplinking their channel (same as carriage fees).

But people here will just read the TRAI guidelines and will think that if we pay Rs.20 for some channel then all will go to that channel :hysterical:

Well said hitman

When did he post?

Its not 9X, its 9XM which is FTA on DDD+. As DISH TV have recently added 9X, may be they are testing in FTA mode,so people in DDD+ getting 9X too.
BTW 9XM is also encrypted but its distributed FTA. The channels are usually encrypted for copy-protection.
Getting back to topic, COLORS, I still think it will come to TATASKY and may be available to all viewers till channel itself remains FTA. Later it may be shifted to LS Gold
