Well, there seems to be a change in my installation date. I am expecting guests at my place next week and hence, decided that I will go ahead with the installation tomorrow itself. Called up the Installation Engineer and he said he will be there tomorrow before 11:30. Initially, he said he would send somebody else, but when I insisted on coming himself he agreed. I have already had a couple of conversations with this guy till now and hence, thought I would be more appropriate if I continued with him. Also, when inquired about 90 cm dish, he clearly mentioned that it only comes with HD-DVR since there are 2 LNBs involved with it. Rest all have only one LNB, i.e SD as well as HD, and hence, they will have the normal size dish. I found his reply logical and hence, closed the topic there.
Lets see what happens tomorrow. I am pretty much excited about watching HD content 24 hrs on my 47 inches LED and at the same time hope that every thing goes on smoothly. Prepare for the worst, hope for the Best
My phone rang today at 11:30 and upon looking at it I realised it was an unknown number. I picked up the call and it was the D2H Engineer at the other end. He asked me the address details and route to reach my home and I explained him thoroughly. I was wondering why did he need it again since he had visited my place just a couple of days back.
When the door bell rang and I opened a door I was surprised to see a different person this time. He was dressed "okay" and was looking in a hurry. I was taken aback since I was assured y'day that the same guy would turn up with whom I had interacted since the beginning. Anyways, nothing can be done now and I started coordinating with this new personality. I didn't like his approach much, but decided to bear with him and get my task done. Gave him an idea on how I wanted the installation to be done and he understood it.
The STB was unpacked and connected to the
TV. He was throwing the boxes, HDMI terminal casing, polythene bags/covers around while unpacking/connecting everything and I personally didn't like it. Once connected, he brought up the Home Screen that said "Please press OK to begin installation". We then went to the terrace and he started installing the dish at the pre decided location. I was asking him questions all the while (thanks to the knowledge gained from this forum) and he was able to answer almost all of them. He finished the installation in 30 minutes and tucked up the wires neatly. Then we went down to the television and he started the rest of the configuration process. In the mean time I asked my wife(I better say "requested" in case she reads this post

) to make some coffee so that the conversation with the engineer can be made a bit easier (remember, I told he was in a hurry and I wanted him to slow down by having coffee with him).
Everything done, I asked him to show the Signal Strength and Quality (here in after referred as S&Q) and he obliged. The strength was 100% and steady and was indicated in GREEN, but the Quality was only about 60% and the level was indicated in WHITE. I now realised that this was the thing that needed to be sorted out and hence, I told him that the quality level was not what I expected. He started the usual thing "Saar, its this much only, this is the max you can get, blah blah"...I told him that I had spoken to the earlier engineer who visited my place and he said that achieving a quality of 90% is very much possible. Hearing this he rushed to the terrace and asked me to keep an eye on the Quality level as he aligns the dish and LNB. This is when he said that the WHITE colored QUALITY LEVEL will now turn GREEN once it improves. I passed on that task to my wife and went to the terrace along with the engineer.
After 5 minutes I was able to get a S&Q levels of 100% and 95% respectively. Once back in front of the television he began explaining the features and also configured the Universal Remote. He was demonstrating the channels and remote functionality and suddenly ESPN signal went off....there was no display and it returned after a couple of phone calls to customer care. I later realised that the activation was not done properly. He again went back to the Box Settings and checked all the Transponders for S&Q levels. As usual, Strength was 100%,but Quality was around 70% for the remaining 2 transponders. This time he went to the terrace himself w/o my word and got the Quality level to almost 99% for both the transponders. Ultimately, I was able to get S&Q levels of 100% and 98% on all the 3 transponders.
Finally, after getting my signatures at 4 to 5 places he departed and I assured him that I will bug him directly if issues crept up, to which he agreed ( I know, nobody says "no", they just don't pick your calls

) Everything was completed by 13:30, exactly 2 hours since I received the first call. I watched the channels till 17:00 and it rained twice in between, but the reception was undisturbed. S&Q levels, that I was monitoring every 20 mins, were very consistent and on par with what he had set, i.e. Strength at 100% all the time and Quality between 97% and 99% all the time.
This post will be incomplete without my mentioning about the abundance of knowledge available on this forum and the extent to which it can benefit an individual. My sincere thanks to all the members of this forum without whose help I would have certainly missed on some thing, especially that WHITE turning GREEN thing
So, that's it, I am enjoying the HD experience and everything seems to look good so far. Have to register online and see what's happening with my account. In the meantime there are lots and lots of pics to come on my thread here
https://broadband.forum/videocon-d2h-hd-dth/72329-my-beauty-led-latest-videocon/#post542725 and I should be done uploading them today itself. I will modify this post in case I recall something that I missed putting here.
