Ive literally turned off wifi on my phone and switched to mobile data just waiting to see when i get to see 200mbps 5G ,even tho i have 200mbps wifi at home

Vi customer care did call me this morning since I had shared in DM my number and 5G activation problem
The person on the other side said :let me put your call on hold, and then she activated 5G on my sim
after that, I got a SMS from Vi :
i do have 5G ON btw ,but idk why i havent got 5G signals yet

First impressions from Vi 5g before it officially launches
5G penetration is really weak right now, as it only connects when I’m on my window, and I was able to get 82mbps down and 10mbps up with it
Vi app doesn’t mention 5G for now, and it keeps deducting data from my 4G plan, which should be fixed as they are very close to officially launching 5G services in Mumbai and other cities

finally!!!
5G penetration is really weak right now, as it only connects when I’m on my window, and I was able to get 82mbps down and 10mbps up with it

It's too early to comment on Vi's 5G performance, let them roll out pan India and then only we will get the true picture. I remember getting around 80-100Mbps of speed on Jio 4G on my OnePlus 7T back in 2020.
Early impressions: Their 5G implementation looks a little weak to me, I mean Airtel 5G to this date gives around 400 Mbps of download speed with reasonable ping indoors at my location on iPhone 12.This speed is even more than my wired broadband connection. When it was launched in October 2022, I used to get 800-900 Mbps indoors, with Jio 5G it used to cross 1Gbps which were crazy speeds.
I don't think Vi would ever be able to provide that kind of speeds with 5G which is kinda sad because it creates more space for duopoly of Airtel and Jio. I understand that competition has been fierce after Jio came in 2016 but Airtel was able to keep up with the competition, I respect Airtel for that. If Vodafone could have kept up with the competition after the merger with Idea then as customers we would have had more options and better priced plans.
I always look out for VFM products as a tech enthusiast. I would be sticking to Airtel for my mobile connection and keep paying them hefty amount every month because I am left with no other option. Jio 5G is pretty useless because of the call drop issue atleast in my location. I was waiting for Vi to launch 5G but seeing this kind of speeds, I am disappointed but not surprised, it was kind of expected.

That I agree with, but then I'm happy that vi has actually taken steps to roll out 5G ,i did a poll a few days ago and a lot of people didn't believe in Vi launching 5G in March 2025 because of how poor their performance has been over the past 2.5 years
and about Vi 5g's initial impressions, Vi 5G just can't penetrate walls for now and that's okay cause remember this company wanted to exit Indian telecom space and that would mean a full duopoly in India, but thankfully it didn't die even tho they are making losses for the past 5 years or so
so I'm hopeful about Vi 5G, as they promised to have affordable 5G plans starting with 299Rs a month unlike the competitions 349 & 379 rupee a month plans

"Affordable plans" seems to be just a marketing gimmick and more of an introductory offer. They will eventually hike up prices at par with Airtel and Jio.
