I agree its a nice ad but only to be understood by the educated junta and not the common man on whom these telecom companies are bragging their growth on.............

Hopefully their services will also be geared towards the educated classes:yahoo:,and they wont sell us the junk that is usually handed out to ignorant poor village folk by some other mass mobile providers:whistle:

i am sure they are in talks right now with some chinese company like ZTE to make custom built sets with vodafone branding for them to launch them in the indian market for less than 1000 bucks :)considering vodafone call charges are higher than reliance they need to sell handsets for cheap with talktime included to get more customers...we need number portability. that's the final solution of everything. the freedom to move from one carrier to another on a monthly/daily basis based on what package they are offering. but even if that happens i am sure there would be charges involved which would make it a lot less attractive to the end customer.

What about the Vodafone locked phones? THe ones that came in the ad during the India vs Australia match? Anybody have any details on them?

@CrazySah: The bundled package is called Magic Box:

Magic Box Price:

B & W: Rs.1199
Color: Rs.1599

Vodafone Magic Box Contains:

- Mobile Handset

- 2-Years Replacement Warranty
- 6 months Validity on the prepaid card.

Free in the Magic Box:

- Talktime worth Rs 50
- Local Calling Bonus Card worth Rs 55: Local calls to Vodafone mobile

I am waiting for number portability since years, I agree thats the Best and only Solution to make Quality of Service better as Operators would then fear losing a customer (no matter how old) if they dont provide Quality service to their customers.

did you say number portability, in mobile phones, i am waiting for it, after airtel has god 50 millions customers there service in our pace has messed up, i have to try 10 to 15 times because of busy network even at 5pm., i switched from bpl to airtel because of same problem in evening, what is use of 50 million customers, whats the use of mobile when you don't receive important call. the condition is worst than broadband.

What about the features of the locked phone Imranais mate? How good is the phone? Can I buy it if I am already a user of Vodafone? Can I use the same number keep the same postpaid plan?

The phone will definitely be locked, and will probably be unlocked if its a good handset.
However if you are an existing user and wanna keep the same number, I'd rather go in for the el chepo Nokia handsets in the market at around the same price
Most of the applicable freebies-talktime,cards,callertunes,etc. will not be available to existing users........its only to persuade new users to jump on the bandwagon

The phone comes with new prepaid card and cannot be bought as an billing number.

I am not sure whether u can just buy the phone from them, remove the sim card which comes with it (6 months validity) and insert ur existing billing sim card and start using it, just call 111 and confirm from them. The phone is definitely Network locked but not sure whether its even sim locked.

As for the phone, it looks Sleek n cool and since it comes with 2 Years Replacement Warranty, its sure a cheap option to go for IMO!

tried using the old Sagems that Hutch sold,it was SIM Locked, even another hutch sim would not work in it.
So I'm definite these will be SIM plus network locked...........No operator is gonna be so dumb as to give handsets at these rates if they were sure it wouldn't be misused in JUGAAD Mentality Bharat desh !!!

IMO at the same price I'd rather buy a Basic Colour or B/W Nokia, coz asli nokia hai to sahi hai (ab tak !!)

But yes as a new user, its certainly better for me..........only down side is they don't have equivalent talktime included, but the 2 yr replacement warranty is good enough to forego that option,
coz I have seen how long Reliance/tata take to repair(NEVER REPLACE) their handsets, even if it konks off within the first 3 months of use
