Our goverment is so slow in forumlating and eventually granting 3G licenses in India. I was surprised to know that Airtel has or rather would be launching its 3G network in Sri Lanka. They (Sri Lanka) are technologically racing ahead of India. The world has moved to 3.5G (also rumoured that some countries like Japan or China have 4G) Telcom networks and HDTV TV Networks etc. (in broadcasting) and here we are still yet to commence work on 3G Networks and also excited about DTH by way of mediocre Tata Sky or Dish TV's offerings.Hutchison (owns brand called 3 in the UK) and its rival Vodafone too have launched 3.5G or HSDPA networks in the UK. 3 will cover major portion of the 3.5G coverage in the UK by christmas this year.Anyway off topic here, but Hutchison-Whampoa is known to build brand names and eventually sell it off at enormous valuations. That's what they did to Star TV and Hutch India, both were owned by Hutchison Whampoa originally. Wonder what they will do with 3 or other subsidiaries? And today, Vodafone (originally Hutch owned by Hutchison-Whampoa) ads will be exclusively shown on Star TV (originally owned by Hutchison-Whampoa again) for 24 hours beginning at 9 PM tonight. Its like both companies are paying their tributes for building brands like them.Watch out for the print ads tomorrow.
