No. try defragment option. surprised you could d/l Anvir Task Manager within 15 minutes and run the program. ( or you had it earlier ?0 There are so many menu items.

Can you use your system normally OFF line ? say pictures viewing etc ?

Formatting and loading the OS and UPD is fine.
But if the same problem arises again reformat ?
I told u i am noob
Glad to note , you have gained the confidence now.
For example my question
3. Start/My computer C:/ what is the toal disk space and free space ?
You have not even mentioned the total disk space and free space in C :
Anyway try disksweeperfree2 from Free download essential and useful softwares
DiskSweeper FREE 2.0 - Freeware Files.com - Utilities Category
Will clear some more junk files from your C:/Windows
Select also 0 byte files /exclude system/hidden files.
Even, if now the system fails/crashes, you have decided to format anyway !
No clue/info to the other person to try to locate the fault.
Start/RUN type sfc /scannow ( note space after sfc )
Keep the XP OS CD ready to insert to CD drive.
As effective as formatting.
Still no improvement, Go ahead .
Format the disk and wish you all success.

my total disk space is 20 GB
mine is 40 GB
Windows itself will take minimum 3 to 4 GHz. wait let me check up. mine is 3.68 GB ( Updates uninstall deleted about 500 to 600 MB)
How this is partitioned ? IN ONE hard disk
as C: allotted 9.75 GB free 2.70 GB OS XP Pro SP2 +minimum programs/folders.
....D: allotted 9.75 GB free 2.75 GB backups .
....E :allotted 17.7 GB free 8.12 GB installation files/applications./ ( forget the available GB total another subject )
I have deleted all old System Restore files . Only yesterday's available.
Start/My Computer/ C: Properties/Disk cleanup/ More options/ Delete System Restore files

May be some sort of maintenance work going on. i had also faced problems yesterday when i was unable to connect to the net.earlier there were frequent disconnections.Today i am able to connect .but i am seeing some erratic speeds in my torrents . before i got constant speeds in the range of 25-30 .now there are frequent stallations and speed most of the time remains in 10-15 or below and most of them time below 10 .I am using Ktorrent on Ubuntu 7.10 with DHT off , protocol encryption enabled.
