What Air Purifier to buy?

On days when pollution is off the charts, if I leave the purifier on level 2, the Air Quality (AQ) easily hits 200-250. I can't stand the Mi purifiers with their lousy sensors (and who knows if Philips is any better), but I guess it's better to have them, even if they're just giving me a ballpark figure. I've noticed that even cranking the purifiers to level 2 doesn't always do the trick – sometimes, the pollution is still too high, and I have to play detective to find out where the nasty air is creeping in from. Don't get me wrong, fresh air is a must, but if I'm stuck in bad air for too long, it's like the purifier is only doing half its job. Like, there are times purifiers are chilling at level 2 while the AQ is hitting 250 and above.

so they are likely to launch filters for this model sometime later? (phillips)

I just need a simple device that does filtration and will have easy replacement for filter.

Sharp model looks nice and they have mentioned 2 years filter life, if true very value for money. Customer service is non-existing like their filters. Ridiculous from such a brand.

Coway megaair aim hmm has mixed reviews and its seller is sending used products but seems they stick to their models and filters are also available.

Honeywell v1 is cheap but no filter and v2 has replacement at decent price. They have too many models, who knows till when replacement will be available and some users were complaining about malfunctioning of sensors.

mi lite 4 has too many unnecessary features but filters are available and i may consider it.

i had suggest sqair under 10K and sa600 under 20K lol. both air purifiers are supported by the company office in india and filters are going to remain available in near future. both are dumb devices with no smart or complicated features. just a fan and controls for the fan.

qubo is another good option though has the same problem. company might lose interest in purifier segment and stop stocking filters in near future.

also worth mentioning here that company's suggestive life of filters is basically not really worth anything. hepa filters by design would get choked based on how much dust passes through. in current delhi type situation, it is going to get choked a lot faster than what the company claims.

few days ago i was comparing the listing for sa600 on their UK and Indian site. UK site mentions filter life of 12 months while indian site sticks to 9 months.

from where do you buy replacement filters ? from their site?

Their site lists delhi address for local pickup so that will be convenient. And can I just use hepa filter or hepa+carbon combo in mandatory.

edit: saw your other reply about replacement. Didn't got notification for that.

yeah if i am visiting saket, i go to their office. otherwise home delivery from their store.

carbon is optional on all their models. on sqair i use a carbon as prefilter coz it does not have one. and carbon one catches a lot of dust before it hits the hepa. i brush the dust off every couple of days during days like these days.

if you are in delhi, i would suggest going to their godown and check the performance of all the models in person before buying. sqair has low air flow imo. but is compact and looks nice lol.

hows the performance and how long it lasts from your experience compared to other popular brands. I need it for quite small/medium room space only.

i generally run sqair through the year as force of habit. and change the hepa 2-3 times. though a new filter would easily last through october-february period. it costs around 1500 rupees and is really thick. and does not get black as fast as the filters on coway and sa600 both of which have a thin filter.

this is the hepa filter i got in february iirc. still haven't used it. it's freaking thick lol.

but yeah. there are no sensors on these models so you would have to run them based on instinct or an external aqi monitor. qubo might be better option if you want something with sensor.

as for Philips. might be a good idea to ping the company on social media or email to get an idea about filter availability. though in my experience these companies do not provide proper details and just tell you to keep an eye on their website for stock availability. you might get lucky though.
