Relax guys. It's probably changed to protect themselves from frivolous lawsuits after they have started payments etc. For which they need to store your additional data.

Your conversations and all are still end to end encrypted so even they can't read it.

Except for navika Kumar from times now news channels

I had Signal app earlier. But none of my contacts were displayed there, so removed it after few days.

BTW I did not accept when I got prompt. Lets see what happens at mentioned date.

get your close friends and family to migrate to telegram. slowly. once they realize that storage issues would be a thing of the past, they are likely to stick with it. signal has the same issue as whatsapp wrt storage.

@vishalrao This tries to explain some of it.

Supposed to be encrypted but still 'some' data will be shared. Somehow it seems difficult to believe its really 'encrypted '

Yeah, but one has to know and enable it which I wouldn't expect family and friends to do. Whatsapp is still better when it comes to encryption out of the box. Signal is what I use though.

@Sushubh On a Samsung M31 a user can shift app or app data to memory card. Personally most of the stuff transmitted on WhatsApp is crap, fit for deletion by the end of the day. If its useful I rename & copy out.

i don't need end to end chat for casual chats with friends and family. i am not a reporter who has to protect his sources or a politician who might have to worry about snooping. what i need is the convenience of sharing files. of any size. without keeping a local copy of it. our primary reason of going with telegram was the fact that it had a dedicated independent desktop app. and since then, telegram has only gotten better. no one uses whatsapp in india because it is end to end encrypted. anyone serious about the privacy of their conversations would be using signal or matrix or whatever new platforms that keep on arriving. telegram is the only serious alternative for whatsapp here in india. and you get the additional benefit of searching for groups where you can get literally everything these days from what i have been told... movies, music, study material. tbh, this is the reason why telegram has gain popularity in india in the recent years. honestly, i have never met a local person using telegram for communication. it is always for random groups that offer them content they want or with people who provide guidance for specific exams.

In WhatsApp my friends & relatives have taken to the 7 day auto deletion like fish to water once I put it on & sent them a msg. Though its quite useless in its current timer.
