Oh c'mon, 95 Rs. is the monthly rental for SMS pack!!

That's for those who SMS right? I don't. Not even those free ones to check balance.

Akash, Have you used the services of freecharge.in? I used them once, still regretting it. Didn't receive the charge and the money is still disputed.

but yes, online recharge is welcome and the operators should lead the way like Airtel.

your recharge problems are solved with freecharge.in

and call rates are higher in postpaid.

for example, if prepaid call rate is 1p/sec,with annual rental of Rs 28(Airtel) then the same in postpaid will be Rs 150 per month atleast, and service taxes @ 13% extra

Similarly, GPRS for prepaid is RS 98/2GB/month, but for postpaid it is Rs 249 for 125MB/month, or 599 for 600 MB/month
Those using Airtel would also know of the "Daily" plans, which are only applicable for prepaid.

And most of all, you know that in prepaid, the company can cheat you of the current balance only, while in postpaid, they may raise 1000's of rupees in dues

----------

However, postpaid does make sense if:
1)You need international roaming
2)Your call volumes are high enough to go for one of the packs which have a significantly higher amount of free calls than the monthly rent
3)You can make use of CUG facilities

ok i have been recharging through freecharge for the last couple of months. it has worked fine for me.

i get their coupons within 2 days... rarely used them. but recharge has always been instantaneous!

paytm.com is another new service. i wanted to try them out too... but they are still working on adding airtel.

Just After Incoming become Free, I bought Airtel Prepaid in 2002 but due to ignorance and Airtel Loot Machao Policy at that time, I had throw the Sim Card bcoz at that time if balance goes to Zero, Incoming too were stopped.

After that tried madly for BSNL Sim Card. Keep Waiting in Queues for 3-4 days at 2 different BSNL ofices, but didn't get my number to the counter even. Once gt chance to reach to counter but till then SIM Card were finished.

Than, came the age of postpaid along with Reliance Infocomm Dhirubhai Ambani Pioneer Offer in December 2002 and booked immidiately. Since then never turned back to Prepaid. Altough there was huge discrepencies in Reliance Billing, Customer Care were blank and Web World Staff were irritating, still managed to get a waiver of Rs 16500 by following with Call Centre and Webworld. I remember people were using it madly and in mumbai alone people were using 501 offer of Reliance and throwing away the Handsets in Sea after making lacs of billing. (Horrifying days of Postpaid for Reliance Infocomm)

But after such huge waiver I learnt that, if one have a postpaid connection, company will do anything to provide service and retain then (although at that time there were almost Zero efforts for Retention by Telcos). In last 10 years, switched to Airtel, Reliance GSM, Vodafone, Tata Indicom but remained in Postpaid only.

Some Best advantages of Postpaid which I have learned in last 10 yrs is:

1. I use for 30 days in advance, and in addition to that I pay that amount after another 18 days, that means a credit of 48 days for seamless connectivity.
2. Once I have subscribed to any plan or offer in postpaid, it continues even if is discontinued for new users (now a days its restricted to 6 months)
3. Retention plan is available only in postpaids and one who is knowledgable and smart can make best use of it.
4. Never had to run for payment at any outlets and stores for payments. All can be done online.
5. Detail Billing provide an option to fight for the operator for every single rupee wrongly charged.
6. People even come to your place to collect the payment amount.
7. While my number is in idle status in prepaid, there are chances of losing it because of hidden policies of many operators but in postpaid it safe to some level.

Much more benefits (can't remember more as of now), but YES Postpaid is always best in comparision to Prepaid :)

I would suggest not to try paytm.com . I lost Rs 50 with them and balance was not credited.

well that is the thing. every service would have some customers who had problems using them. a member above has posted about how freecharge failed for him. you are telling me that Paytm failed for you. paytm is active on twitter... twitter accounts come handy in terms of need. works better than trying out their regular customer care. in any case, i would be testing paytm at least one. freecharge has worked wonderfully for me even though they charge 10 bucks extra (i rarely end up using their discount coupons).

But why don't you use payment gateway of Airtel directly ? I think that would be much better. I tried it for Videocon, because they don't have online recharge facility .

airtel payment gateways are a risky bet compared to these third party services. airtel customer care is hopeless if there is any problem!

----------

every time i pay my broadband bill using airtel's own gateway i pray that it works out fine.

ohh !! Never tried it for Airtel, Had tried twice for reliance on their site and it works amazingly. Reliance had facility to rechare anyone number through Instant Rechare option without any login.

I've done 10 recharges worth a total of around 3k from freechargeGot coupons 9 times out of 10.Also, often they send out extra couponsPrimarily I use the McDonalds couponI did have a failed recharge of Rs29, which was credited to my account after a week
