vista and 7 both detect wireless networks which are not broadcasting SSIDs.

Agree with your post#7 was doing that till I bought an Acer 3810TZ which for some reason cannot to my network when the SSID is hidden but works fine when it's not hidden :( Incidentally this laptop has Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

Socrates what u can do is that go to the wireless connection and right click on it. There is an option to add new wireless network. Add a new wifi network with the name same as the SSID of ur router and the password of the router login and click on add. This should do the need full. And enable the SSID for the first time when u connect to the wifi after adding ur wireless network and disable it after u disconnect the wifi.

And one more thing that i do on my VAIO is that to disconnect from the router i dont click on disconnect to disconnect i rather switch off the wifi of my laptop through the button provided on the laptop. And when u want to connect to the wifi just simply switch on the button and ur laptop will automatically connect to the wifi. No need to disconnect and connect through the wireless connection.:yahoo:

And no matter whosoever says anything never broadcast ur SSID because if there is a computer geek out there he can crack ur WPA2 AES & PSK security easily.:notallowed::cool2:

Thanks. I have been using a WiFi router (self configured) to connect my HP laptop for last 2.5 yrs :) where the SSID is hidden it's only the new (post #12) lappy which has a problem hence this rigmarole
