Kolkata seems to thrive on its cheap cable Ethernet based broadband providers and we finally have a new player in the market-Wishnet Pvt. Ltd. that seems to be offering the best packages around the corner.:thumb::thumb:

The Pros:

1. Great speed packages at affordable rates:yahoo:

2. Very less disconnection problems:cool2:

3. No shared IP concept-dynamic IP for each individual

4. Competent customer service which understands basic problems of home users.

5. Speed fairly constant over a general time period with good upload speeds.:dance:


The Cons:

1. Major port blocking which could be an issue in torrents/FTP transmissions

2. Limited availability( Kolkata only at the moment, would spread later)


My Personal Experience:

After a harrowing experience with Net4India(potentially the worst ISP in India), our cable operators switched over to Wishnet three weeks ago due to a plethora of complaints. Since then, the changes have been fast and extremely satisfying.:thumb:

I am using the 1Mbps Unlimited package, which comes to 1102 rs.(including tax). The speeds are constantly over 1 Mbps with little fluctuations(checked at Speedtest servers thrice a day). Upload speeds are generally good.

My download speeds for HTTP and direct download sites(premium content ) has been 120-133 kB/s while torrents(even with ports blocked) gives me a constant of 85-110 kB/s regardless of torrent.:yahoo::yahoo:

The customer care is helpful with basic disconnection/home user problems although I suggest speaking to their engineers for more technical backbone issues.

They have implemented Wimax recently as a part of their expansion policies.
I am on Ethernet cable and extremely satisfied with their QoS(Quality Of Service) and constant delivery of promised packages.:cool2:


Its been only a short time since their launch, but they look like a really promising new player in the market which could shake off the monopoly of BSNL and Alliance.


Kolkata users should definitely give this one a try.:thumb::thumb::thumb:

Wishnet is usually tying up with cable providers to provide service similar to Alliance Broadband. I am not too sure about individual connections.:redface:

Agree with the Net4India part, I suffered for a year tooBut Wishnet is up on its guards when it comes to delivery of promised packages.I did not face link-removed issues because of dynamic IP and torrents give me above 90 kB/s even with ports blocked.Guess I'm lucky:redface:Wishnet packages of 1Mbps at 999 have been introduced recently as a part of their expansion plans. Hope they keep delivering the goods like they are at the moment.:thumbsup::thumbsup:Finally, a friend of mine has Alliance and he tells me the night double speeds never actually show up to the users in practice.At this moment , I wish they opened up the ports but still very happy with Wishnet.:yahoo::yahoo:

all wishnet users are requested to check your internet speed properly. i am using silver package 512kbps line, but i am not satisfied with this connection. when i am surfing net or checking mail, after 15/20 minutes it shows web page not found.

Presently i have taken the wishnet broadband connection.I am from south kolkata. The connection is too good. They are providing good connectivity with less disconnection. I have taken 1mbps connection. Believe me download and upload speed are awesome.Moreover the speed sometimes is greater than 1mbps.I was using BSNL but then i had to surrender that due to bad customer service. The internet was totally down for continuously 15 days. Then i contacted Airtel. They told me that they have no service in our locality. Then i opt for Wishnet and probably this is the best connection i have used till date. I am very much satisfied with wishnet. Moreover they are providing Wish Radio a value added service from Wishnet absolutely free. There customer service are also good.

hii guyzz!! I am new in Kolkata. At present I have taken a flat near Tiljala Police Statn, Picnic Garden. I want to have a wishnet connection. Any help,(any name, contaact no. or any link) which cable provider can provide me the connection?Thanks in advance!
