or after 7 days they will come back and say it's not possible?

They did that to me after making me wait for seven days

more than likely. so the better thing to do is ask for feasibility of that package in your area. they usually get back to me with the confirmation in 2 days. but then they tend to get back to me a lot faster on a lot of thing. :|

Feasibility can be checked only after requesting for a change of plan. At least that's what they told me.

We would like to inform you that we do not have privilege to confirm the plan feasibility. However, we would like to inform you that the plan feasibility will be confirmed by our concern team once the request will be registered for the same.

Thank you so much for choosing to continue with airtel. We welcome your feedback.

Hi I called them up on Saturday and asked to be moved to Rapid15 GB plan.

They took down my request and assigned a case number, and said it will be action-ed upon within 7 days.

Does this mean the plan is feasible in my area, or after 7 days they will come back and say it's not possible?

Yipee!! Finally got the plan changed, and I can see torrent's downloading at actual speed of 1.02 MB instead of the 256 KBPS I was used to seeing.

Even then the CC guys created some drama before changing it.

I had requested for the plan change on Saturday and I was told by next Friday this would be done. Then on Wednesday some one else calls and confirms the plan change details. After this I get an SMS saying the plan change will take another 10 days!

I called up the CC again. The guy told me that the person who initially took my request made some mistake so they had to initiate it again. I asked for the name of the person who initially registered my case and told them if I don't get a change of plan with in 2 days I will escalate this to their management and also will post about this in all on line forums.

And voila! that night itself my plan got changed :)

What I do not understand is why they have to try and delay something which they can do immediately, especially when I am migrating to a higher cost plan??!!

Short answer : because they are cheapos

Airtel has been on a cost cutting exercise for a few years now. Even if it requires adding an extra person to overcome the sudden overload of work they will not do it to keep the costs down.

Eight years back they installed a DP on my house wall...its cover is broken allowing water to enter when it rains hard and lashes the building. Couple of house lizards have also hacked into it to nest and lay eggs. It broke because the Airtel technicians do not have the patience to open and close it with care.....the appearance of the Airtel technicians has also changed...they now look more like local electrician helpers (probably sub contracted) They do not even bother to properly secure the wires redrawn from the DP using tietags or brackets or something...they just tie it into a tight knot around any object like railing, grill, tree stump. The cables are not labeled to identify easily which line goes to which customer's premises....when some connection fails they come and yank at the twisted bundle of wires punched in the DP to figure it out.

Couple of years back they even shut down a customer service center in my area which is the most expensive residential area developed by the government sandwiched between the Electronic city where Infosys HO is based and the high tech corridor where tech parks and few other IT company HOs like Wipro are based . Property prices here have soared to 8k to 15k per sft fetching very high rents affordable only by the high income individuals and businesses but Airtel does not believe in sending some smart salespersons with impressive flyers...instead they hire third party marketing people who stick posters and banners on public property like trees, poles and park fences in blatant violation of the civic laws.

It is not Airtel alone who adopt such cost cutting measures. Sometime back I saw a video on YouTube in which a professor explains why a car manufacturer took a decision not to recall a batch of sold vehicles which had faulty components which could lead to serious accidents causing serious injury or death. The reason why the car company decided against recalling the cars is because some authoritative experts of the company arrived at a conclusion it is cheaper to compensate any claims from accident victims than replace the faulty components in the entire batch. In other words they thought a few customer lives is cheaper than the cost of recalling and replacing the defective components.

yeah. the wiring guys that came to my place few weeks ago came in chappals. this has never happened before.of course they were from alcatel lucent and not airtel. but they still came to fix my airtel connection. this is something i had expect from reliance. but airtel? never before.

Called up Airtel this afternoon to change my plan -- The lady on the phone asked me couple of details like address, DOB, last payment mode and Airtel account number. I gave all the details and told her that I paid the last bill online by Credit card and I don't remember my account number. She said, Your information is wrong about the last payment mode, She told me she doesn't have details of the mode of the payment (How can they say that information given is wrong when they dont even the details) and asked me to call later with the account number. I told her that its not feasible for anyone to remember the Airtel account number. She didnt budge and stuck with her words. I had to eventually find my account number and call them back! All in all -- Changing plans with Airtel turned out to be a headache. The new plan will be implemented start of the next billing cycle.
