Yes Bank News & Updates

@Trex those hoops that you are jumping through are to safeguard your account. The bank is only doing what it takes to secure your account and frankly I think its a good move.

The mistake you made was to format your phone without checking if your have an alternative 2FA method like OTPs or a recovery code. Never delete 2FA apps or reset the mobile phone unless the data is backed up AND you have other methods of identifying yourself. Get all these things clarified from the bank so you don't get caught next time.

Also, OTPs in apps are generated based on a 'seed' (alphanumeric string) and a date/time value on the handset and do not require access to the network.

HDFC bank just started a 2FA OTP received as SMS ...which of course requires network access.

and the branch employee have no clue about the yes secure. Told me to call cc. Another loop back and forth between cc and branch👏

I thought of giving a last try to cc and to my surprise this time the cc guy knew the issue and changed 2fa preference to SMS OTP in just 1 minute.
Finally able to reset the password. Next time I will be cautious about using such 2FA.

yeah. i stay away from proprietary app specific otp generation system for the same reason. not sure why these companies won't use the totp standard used by tech companies.

SBI has a proprietary TOTP generation app..fat chance I'll use it. I prefer SMS OTP and for those that allow it I use Authy (still debating on deleting my account) along with 2FAS and Aegis on Android and Raivo on the iPhone. I do NOT trust only 1 single app to serve the keys OTP to my accounts.

so if you are getting mails from yes bank to do rekyc. and there are no changes to your information like address or mobile number.

send a mail to [email protected] with account id, account number and a message saying there are no updates to your information and they should renew your kyc.

i was told this by the local bank branch after they checked my account and asked me if i need to update any information in my account.

i did get an auto responder that they are going to look into my request. no confirmation if my kyc is renewed. today is likely a holiday so hopefully tomorrow!
