I may be criticized for saying this, but the tech giants are responsible for setting this expectation that things are free on the internet. Sure, they wanted to foster an addicted audience and increase traffic for a good period of time, but how did it affect the users? People feel they are entitled to free content and free access to information.
Everyday I come across so many comments on Instagram that courses and training programs should be free. Why? Because they have been getting everything for free all this while. I worked for a company that offered Live Virtual Classroom software (zoom competitor) and that is when I learned that infrastructure, data and storage cost money. A lot of money in some cases. Someone or the other is paying for what we perceive as 'free'.
