Does anyone know why the govt is keeping high reserve price for the Band 700mhz. Why that band is considered as premium as compared to many other 4g bands? Does 700 mhz band has any specific advantages over other bands like in the form of high coverage/bandwidth etc?
700,850,900Mhz comes under sub GHz category these bands are capable of giving wider and longer coverage it can easily penetrate walls improving indoor coverage.
@philip I'm posting this based on my understanding please correct me if I am wrong.
Usually in these wireless stuff, higher the frequency then higher the bandwidth but it will have a lesser range and will have a hard time penetrating obstacles.
Lower the frequency, lesser the bandwidth but will have a wider range.
Exactly thats why i am asking why operartors are keen on getting these bands since they dont have bandwidth capacity as compared to other higher bands. As for the indoor coverage if many people will get latched to this band then it will be easily congested isnt it?
@philip yes these bands are capable only for coverage not capacity. Since people are complaining poor indoor coverage operators are seeking these bands. 700Mhz can also give decent speeds but it needs higher blocks like 10Mhz.
Spectrum is auctioned in blocks which are chunks of spectrum, the block size is different for different bands. Block size for 700 MHz band is 5 MHz, for 850 MHz it is 1.25 MHz, for 900 and 1800 MHz bands it is 0.2 MHz, for 2100 MHz it is 5 MHz, for 2300 and 2500 MHz bands it is 10 MHz.
