I am guessing there will be caps etc. Otherwise you will have BMW buyers buying a used old alto to scrap and get 25% off the road tax

Apparently only 3000 odd cars that are outside 10/15 year old have actually been scrapped in the last 3 years out of an estimated 3.5 lac so they are trying to increase that

Doing that during a pandemic is horrible though

what i am confused about is how center is planning to introduce a yearly green tax as low as 3-4K per year to allow these vehicles to continue running. and delhi government is planning to fine 10k and forcefully scrap old vehicles.

not to mention, how absurd is this policy in a country like ours. in usa, it is fairly common for people to own and drive vehicles that are 20-30 years old. most people actually buy second hand vehicles that have 1-2L miles on odo. people restore old vehicles and drive them on the road. but here in a poor country like india... they decide to make 10/15 year old vehicles illegal. reddit threads on cars are usually quite fun to read. people own vehicles that have done 10L miles and these cars are still running fine.

not necessarily. people are driving around in civics/corollas and other sedans that are 20-30 years old. but yeah, they do not really buy many hatchbacks. and trucks are very popular especially in areas like texas.

but yeah trucks and suvs do top the charts.
