Hi all,

I had recently taken an Airtel Xstream Broadband connection with 100 Mbps plan. To save on the installation cost, I took the 3 month advance rental plan (ARP). At the time of installation, I was told that I could change the ARP plan to a monthly plan after 3 months.

Today, when I called to change my plan ARP to monthly plan, the customer care person told me that there is no monthly plan available for 100 Mbps (Rs. 799 per month)!!! I had to either take a lower plan (50 Mbps at Rs. 699 per month) or a higher plan (200 Mbps at Rs. 999 per month).

If you log in to the Airtel website, it clearly shows a Standard plan for Rs. 799 monthly rental. What they have cleverly failed to mention is that you can only continue to avail this plan if you pay advance rental for 3 months.

I have been really happy with Airtel and their broadband connection so far and I will continue using their services, but these billing tactics have put a sour taste in my mouth.

If someone can shed a little more light on this issue, that'll be really helpful. Thank you.

Use the My Airtel app and change the plan by yourself. The 40Mbps plan costs 499+GST and 100 Mbps costs 799+GST. There is no 50 Mbps plan on Airtel AFAIK.

Plans vary by city. As mentioned by @shantam2005 , use the app to change plan.

The sales team in Airtel is known to use multiple tactics like this. So, learn from it and go on with life / work. We have seen worse from Airtel.

Thank you so much! I downloaded the Airtel Thanks app and changed the Premium plan to Standard monthly. Strangely, when I changed the plan on the app, I got a message saying "Oops, something went wrong, please try again later". However a minute later, I got an SMS from Airtel that the Premium plan has been deactivated and the new plan is now monthly.

Also, when I was changing the plan, there was a message below the Premium plan stating: "Advance rental plan will change to monthly and you will lose out on benefits if not paid before 01 July 2022". I guess if I hadn't taken any action, it would've automatically changed to monthly option.

I'm just disappointed the customer care person didn't bother to mention these points and instead tried to plug the Premium option.

I used to be Airtel 799 100Mbps plan, which I got for a 3-month advanced renewal during installation. After the tenure, it automatically converted itself to a monthly plan.
If you try to call their sales customer support, they try to upsell you. What I have realized is to dial (022) 44444121 from my smart phone, after entering the fiber landline number, just enter incorrect commands multiple times, and after 2 tries, it automatically redirects you to a customer spokesperson. Just tell them, what you want and they politely just do that, no questions asked.
