Impressions from the LTE Asia Summit 2011 in New Delhi, India - 4G Trends
Ericsson has bagged a contract for rolling out the TD-LTE network of Augere in Madhya Pradesh. Augere won BWA spectrum in Madhya Pradesh, including Chhattisgarh, during the auctions held in Q2 2010. The company will roll out services early next year, with a soft launch planned for Q2 2012.
Augere will offer TD-LTE services under the ZOOSH brand to residential and
business customers in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh circles. Augere initially expects to launch USB dongles for its TD-LTE followed by
smartphones,
tablets, etc. In India, Augere is up against RIL in the Madhya Pradesh circle. It is expected to share radio access by way of intra-circle roaming agreements with RIL. Being a greenfield operator in India, Augere needs to keep its backhaul networks ready to cater to new bandwidth-hungry services and applications that will be driven by video content.
Bharti Airtel has decided to adopt a multivendor strategy for its TD-LTE network rollout in four circles (Maharashtra, Kolkata, Karnataka and Punjab) in India. It has selected
Huawei for TD-LTE rollout in Karnataka. Per an industry source, 500 TD-LTE base stations are to be deployed in the first phase of the BWA rollout in Karnataka. Bharti Airtel has also selected ZTE for TD-LTE rollout in Kolkata. ZTE is to commission 850 sites in Phase-I of the Kolkata BWA rollout. Bharti Airtel has the financial muscle and the passive infrastructure to make the best use of its BWA spectrum.
