After emailing Radhika Ramesh, the TN Appellate I got a call from their office today morning. It was really quick response anyways.. They are confirming that 3G on Blackberry is still not available. They it would be another couple of weeks before the launch will happen. From what I could understand from the guy, they are working on many issues they are now facing with 3G launch and hence they would want to launch Blackberry 3G after they are stabilized with this. Despite of such long delay of 3G implementation, it looks like our Service providers had no or less planning for the roll out.. With a matured telephony market, services stumbling like this is too bad..I could see many complaining from Bangalore and Chennai of issues...

I have got the blackberry bold 9000 working with Airtel 3G using opera mini, linked in and browser hack. I am on the Blackberry Rs. 299 messaging only plan + Rs. 750 - 2Gb plan.

This after this morning getting "Operator blocked" everytime I tried to access a site using Opera.

Now after loading the all browser TCP hack, I am gettingh everything working.

I am getting full 3G and Blackberry symbols.

After all this, the service is just a little better - voice only - than BSNL's unlimited blacberry plan for Rs. 899.

I really feel jaded by airtel's rubbish data plan and that such a good co. - when I signed up in 2005 - is unable to figure out pricing for a blackberry..

The 3G customer service - 12134 - is being attended to by a bumch of clowns.

I have already requested the porting out code and am getting 2 calls a day from illeterate people at Airtel..

Thoroughly dejected, off to BSNL I go!!

BSNL 3G Blackberry Plan is promising.. but not sure how good their BES Service is ? Let us know how it works once you get Ported into BSNL ;)

@Ajay - I have been using BES since BSNL launched 3G an a second sim. Made friends with local blacberry rep at BSNL office so no cap on bandwith which was initially there. Was gettin 1.5mbps - 2mbps consistently even with 2 bars.

I do not have a BES server but with the BES plan, POP mail worked perfect and only 2 outages in the last year and that only for 2hrs each.

The 3G signal is also available in tier 2 and 3 cities and due to lower usage pattern in those towns I was downloading files at 3.5Mbps (300 KBps) over long periods.

As I mentioned before, I managed to get an internal broadband WWAN moded card working in my Dell XPS so no hassles of irritating USB dongles. So for the last 3 months the SIM has been in my laptop intermittently switching into blackberry in remote areas.

All in all.. I am very happy with BSNL since I get my emails delivered in one of the remotest villages in CKM which is 20km from the nearest airtel signal.

Just submitted the application to port to BSNL.

I am fed up with the hugely inflated Airtel Bills and 0 customer satisfaction and the frustration of nobody at that darned company to listen.. I get that from BSNL at far lower cost :)

Looks like there is some problem with FlexiShield package

Airtel CS called up sometime back and confirmed the problem has been rectified. I am able to connect without any problem now.

In short, BSNL works great if u have friends in the dept :)

@donthave - Not really. I have dealt with a fair share of ignorant BSNL Dinos :). Luckily I found two very helpful people at BSNL Amenity Block, race Course Rd office. One was knowledgeable BSNL Manager and anothe a Wipro/BB representative.

A little persistence, tea and a couple of smokes later, voila, 2MBps 3G connection. I still go there regularly to pay my bill in person and so meet them regularly and they helpful to others as well.

Folks at airtel are just arrogant.

I got laughed at in the face by an entire airtel outlet when I told them I wanted to know how to port to "BSNL". Sadly, they had no answer to any questions regarding their own newly launched service. Everything had to be referred to some hot line where and equally cluessly 20 something f00l had less information.

We have the second largest population on this planet and airtel is runnin after the ARPUs of the Africans!!! I wonder if the monkeys are accpeting payments in peanuts!! Priorities!!!

On Monday, I am selling all my under performing airtel stock as well!! I will invest the proceeds in SBI - especially after watching the show on Discovery Channel!!

Next month I am expecting full feature on the Airtel specimens on Nat Geo!!! Ha ha ha..
