before suing then we have to make sure if this is indeed illegal..TRAI would only be able to answer it.but those Dumb asses are not responding.Looks like Airtel had Bribed them too..I can't imagine a situation if this Policy is really implemented by all ISP's.I was in a wrong impression that Airtel is the most professional broadband service provider in India but never thought that they would take such a giant step backwards when the world is moving at about 10 times the pace we are.Fck airtel.:@:@

As far as i know there is no such policy announced by trai. Fair usage policy was just a recommendation by airtel to trai for QOS. Moreover The term Unlimited means No limit of download caps and the Speed. We already pay a very high price for the Shyt speed and unlimited connection. Airtel can be sued as It did mention on their website "As per the recomendation by Trai guidlines " while trai never recommend it. More Over reducing speed is just a breach of QOS. Its degreadation of service and customer has the right to sue them for this purpose. Am not a lawer or anything but this is some info i can gather out.

Genxed it is possible that few people can take away lot of the bandwidth...its like a the tap is opened and somebody has rushed with a huge bucket and taking away most of the water

this is the paper that TRAI released. it is fully in favor of the customer. TRAI makes it a point to have the ISP ensure that the minimum speeds promised are made available to every user. TRAI also acknowledges the increased usage needs of consumers and feels that there is adequate uplink capacity available to india in order to achieve this for the existing userbase of broadband customers.

there is no indication of any sort towards fair usage policy. the 'internationaly followed practices' do not contain any mention of any such policies.

lol. If some one is using much bandwith , yes he's paying for it. He must have bought unlimited Plans!!! Its on Airtels part to get the bandwith for all . it does charge us high money.. Its so obvious that person using unlimited plan will download a lot or consume high bandwith.

Some readers seem to support the view expressed by Sify (vide what is quoted by GENEXED in his/her mail) that a very small percentage of users consume a very large portion of the bandwidth. Now, only a person who wishes to use the bandwidth heavily wiil subscribe for an unlimited plan. So, it is no wonder he/she consumes more. It is pointless to complain. Already unlimited plans are restricted to lower end speeds like 384 kbps, 256 kbps etc. It is toatally unfair to restrict their speeds any further. Further, TRAI guidelines has clearly defined the lower limit of broadband usage in India as 256 kbps. So, the cheeky decision of AIRTEL to cut the speeds according their own arbitrarily decided Fair Usage Policy is plainly a breach of faith and an act of illegality and immorality. They deserve to be reined in and taught a fitting lesson. So let us all unite and act swiftly and surely.

Warthog is right when he says that most of the ISPs across the world are offering majorly limited plans....i went through some of the sites like Verizon and found it out

first of all, i am buying a tap ( with an assurance of the amount of flow that will be AVAILABLE AT ALL TIMES TO MY AVAIL) and the right to put it on to the pipeline. i have every right to keep the tap open as much as possible and collect as much of the incoming material as possible for me.

if a connection offers unlimited downloads at 256 kilobits per second, i should be able to download (256/8)*3600*24*no. of days in month bytes for the billing period. this comes out to 85,708,800 bytes of data or better put as 81.73 giga bytes of data. if you can not allow me to use the connection that way, you can not quote it as unlimited.

and since you are here as a representative of airtel ( or as it seems), i would like to tell you that you are not the master of broadband, atleast not yet. and won't be, if you keep going the way you are.

what is high bandwidth? there is nothing like high bandwidth or low bandwidth for a fixed upper limit connection. consumer is provided with a connection that provides him with a pre-determined speed. he may devise ways to avail that speed/bandwidth upto that limit and is fair in his usage unless that limit is breached intentionaly by the consumer himself through illegal means. if a user consuming the connection upto the limit is being called a 'high bandwidth consumer', if is apparant that the service provider did not expect to be required to provide the promised bandwidth and thus did not take steps to ensure the availability.

LOL Verizon has no caps on its plans..how ignorant are you ? Verizon is also rolling out FiOS..what is Airtel doing ? Throttling on 'broadband' speeds of 256kbps ? Are you insane ? If someone is paying for an unlimited connection..they can use it as much as they want..what is it unlimited for then ? Someone on a 256k connection can degrade performance for others ? Really now ? How crappy is your network ? BRB, hiring more celebs and advertising while throttling people who actually utilize their connecitons.BTW, already dropped my Airtel mobile and would ensure others in my friend circle do the same.

People are much aware in this todays Indian and airtel wont be able to cheat with people . Yeah if they fill $$$$ in to highpockets then maybe... u know corruption... just getting annoyed with these silly policies. They should be concentrating on providing services fast better cheap services rathter than lowering their reputation.
