and there was no explaination for hiking the rates, was there any? masterofbroadband sir, can you explain which cost factor went up in these recession times that caused airtel to hike the already high charges?

Guys I think it has primarily been done for the folks donwloading and selling pirated CDs in the market. Those chaps suck the complete bandwidth and genuine internet users like us have to suffer.

I have used broadband connections of perhaps all companies and have now been using a Airtel Broadband connection for years. I think Airtel is far superior than the others. Thats led out of my own experiences....dont know what others think

^^ Hmm..a new registrant ..straight away answering in this thread..and perhaps the only one supporting airtel..strange

yes, very likely masterofbroadband is an airtel marketroid posting PR for them :D

makes sense?.no point talking to him..

OMG this thread really is on fire :DWasn't there a few posts earlier indicating Airtel has reverted this, at least on their webpages? But other posts mention Airtel has confirmed this near-criminal move... I'm still waiting to see what other ISPs end up doing, if anything...And BTW, its supposed to be "bandwidth hoggers" not "huggers" that must be a typo in the Airtel/TRAI PDFs...

they've not reverted anything. the cc guy even refused to transfer the call to his lead. " fup will be applicable on all unlimited plans in all circles" . " it is all india policy by trai sir". i had to force him into lodging the complaint word by word as i said it. but i doubt if he actually did that.

" we have brought this policy to help users get best service".
read it^^ as: " we are doing some cost cutting on bandwidth and trying to keep the usage levels below 90%. we are also raising your monthly electricity and broadband bill as it suits us just fine. We are TRAI from now on. no, we are above TRAI from now."

this thread aint hot enuf... people don't realise how easily they could hit 15gb..or how easily airtel could lie about it. heck, even an avid youtube watcher will hit 15gb in no time. torrents are not the only thing that are data-heavy :P

The only sensible thing to do now is for all Airtel Broadband customer-victims should decide to terminate their connections forthwith. TRAI has NOT issued any directive. It is only that Airtel and Sify have written to TRAI about "Fair Usage Policy" by way of suggestions, but without waiting for its approval have started implementing their own diabolical plans. So let us act fast to bring down the unethical ISP's to their knees.

Genxed it is possible that few people can take away lot of the bandwidth...its like a the tap is opened and somebody has rushed with a huge bucket and taking away most of the water

Really ?

you know we are limited by the head of the bottle that leads to bucket which is very very narrow as compared to broadband wordlwide. i.e PLAN SPEEDS Prices are set by ISP themselves and not by us.and fyi ISP are required to add more bandwidth when it touches 80% right as per TRAI clause so if ISP's are following that why heavy downloaders are taking anybody's share.

Can you show me anywhere in world a plan of 256 unlimted with capped limit? try searching for it and u wont find a plan of 256 kbps because its too slow to be broadband.

AND IF I GO BY YOUR WAY, AIRTEL SHOULD STOP GIVING NEW CONNECTION IMMEDIATELY.BECAUSE EVERY NEW CONNECTION ADDS TO THE BANDWIDTH HOGGING (REMEMBER TAP IS RUNNING) AND IS TAKING OTHERS SHARE SO JUST STOP GIVING NEW CONENCTIONS AS WELL IF YOU CAN'T MAINTAIN ENOUGH BANDWIDTH IN THE LINE. Excuse my caps.

Secondly reducing the speed will affect normal browsing more than the downloaders.Lets say 2 users A and B have a plan of 512 Kbps. A downloads a movie every day 700*30 = 21 gb.+4 gb upload = 25 GB so he stays within the range and speed is not affected.
Now user B is learning programming thru flash tutorials (EDUCATIONAL PURPOSE) finds he can no longer do that because his speeds are reduced and everything streams fist before playing.
Amount of bandwidth used is not only decided by what user is doing (downloading or watching videos) but also by how many members in family are using internet, how many hours a user is using internet.Oh now dont porpose to have individual plans for all members in family.

Mr Master of Broadband, I dont know if ur airtel executive or not but in case if you are then I must tell you that 3 days back airtel was the top most ISP company in India and now its the most fraud ISP in india, airtel has lost trust because ppl are thinking "whats next". I can't understand changing the significant condition of plan specially for exisiting customers without their consent.

From Trai Site I found following contact information. So lets report this fraud from airtel to TRAI.

Why terminate the connection? We have better things to do in life then just finding news ISPS. You have signed a contract with airtel and if they are changing the conditions it is their problem not ours. Keep paying them by lowest speed u get in the month. and not with the plan speed. and if they want to terminate your connection tell them to refund the installation first and keep the phone rent free for life time as the number has been circulated and its not us who wants to terminate.

Airtel allows old customers to retain
their existing plans.
Only if you want to migrate to new plan
problem starts.

I am still on combo 499 2Mbps
+ Nu top up ( 2 Mbps) at Rs 99/PM.
( offer originally in Karnataka circle !!!!)

Yes, even I confirmed the same today from the Customer Care executive....

Like I am using Home 649 plan, which no longer exists....

So, being an existing user, I am still on the same plan with no capping whatsoever.

Still the speed of 256kbps and unlimited download & upload holds good.

BTW - If I am missing some point, kindly elaborate the issue

people who are defending airtel here would love it when the government starts rationing water and probably air supplies.
