@genexedi doubt that airtel buys bandwidth based on MBs. they just buy fixed bandwidth may be say few hundred Mbps per area. and hence pay fixed price per month.what they are doing is load sharing because they dont want to buy extra bandwidth even after number customers increase in an area.and hence probably they are reducing speed of heavy downloaders in name "Fair Use" and increasing customer base but keeping cost incurred still the same.

yeap. bandwidth is certainly not bought in terms of GB or TB. they are bought in terms of speeds.

they also have their own fibre optic cable running from chennai to singapore..i think its called i2i..bandwidth is dirt cheap in Singapore..

2 Wrongs don't make a right either.

Just 3 days back airtel was fine, put yourself in their shoes, how would u like someone dl 100 gbs off torrent, they pay for bandwidth not the connection speeds they give you.

I am not saying they are justified , Neither they did the right thing or in right way but they have not done any thing where one should lose cool and go abusive.
please find below the definition of bandwidth.

define:bandwidth - Google Search=

or do you think airtel goes out to the connectivity service providers and asks for service like this?: " bhaiya 10 TB internet dena"???

airtel buys bulk bandwidth, slots it area wise and distritbutes to final POP. as unlimited customer, we are buying a small part of the bandwidth they are buying from the access service provider. i hope you understand the point.

you are forgetting another point here. they are the one fixing the price we pay. they are charging the money they initially believed we should be paying for the service they have been providing for years. nothing changed. bandwidth has not become expensive all of a sudden. prices of the higher packages have not been reduced in a long long time. we pay what they ask for and now they claim we are being unfair to them by using what we pay for? how is that logical? bandwidth logically becomes cheaper with times. internet access has to become cheaper with time. airtel is doing it all wrong. they are being jerks with their latest moves. if i am to believe another thread running in this forum, they are now starting to block online voip services. the situation is getting worse with time...

TRAI asked how to set QoS parameters. airtel/sify said: define whatever QoS you want. but let us have the right to downgrade the parameter values to 'fair' values. let' see whether all the nosie made over the last one week has had any effect on them. they pretty much have only two options in short term, either purge unlimited connections completely or remove FUP. they've done a blunder in dragging TRAI into this. if DoT wants to protect whatever credibility TRAI has, it would definatly want to get away from airtel' latest misdeeds.

hay sushub call ndtv and ibn and TOI.we have to get this to the media and force airtel to revert it back. The last time they did sdometinhg silly was thier own search where if you inputed wrong site it would direct you to airtel search.

I wanted to check the tariff plans for Karnatka circle and found that the tariff plans got changed. I guess other circle plans are intact. Only 7 plans are present now and no unlimited 512 kbps or 1 Mbps plans. They have increased the data transfer limit though on the data capped plans.

Airtel Tarrif

Is this applicable to Home 799 plan in noida?
or
they have put restrictions on higher speed plans?
